Brainstorming and ref gathering. Getting down the first stuff that I thought of when mulling over the Art War challenge. References chosen to match my brainstorm based on colours, interesting silhouettes and ideas that really interest me. All reference images and artists/sources can be found on my Art War pinterest board.

Nice brainstorming process, you'll get the right design in no time! Keep it up, will be waiting for another update

First sketches. Using my first reactions and the references to just get something onto the page. I like some small parts here and there but ehhh still nothing really concrete yet.

Adding some more inspiration into the mix. Can't forget space. Space makes me feel small and insignificant, it's so awesome.

Some human-ish guys. I don't want to go monstrous, but I do want to try some much younger, much older and physically enourmous characters. I hate some stuff here but I also love a lot of stuff too. Very eager to hear any opinions on which design appeals most to you.

Exploring the mesoamerican angle more.

Amazing designs man, the patterns are insanely good

Oh my nice exploration, love them designs and colors!! Galaxy Knuckly Masker is so cool!! And the broken really catched my eyes...

These are some awesome sketches. You seems to know what you want, and what you're doing, those earlier designs look great as they are... I just here to see your awesome work in the making

@Kreyhardt @borjengoh Thank you very much guys!

All week I felt like I had no idea where I was going with this concept still. Nothing had resonated with me yet... did some more characters and actually now I'm starting to arrive at a champion idea I like. Did some research into Aztec & Mayan deities and mythology, which put me on the right path I think. A lot of was triggered from the first sketch here, but going forward I definitely want to avoid the Disney-look of the generic shirtless Aztec dude.

Stuff I'm throwing around: He has a magic hook made out of obsidian and the night sky that can phase through reality to hook into the inner-essence/hearts of his foes to judge their souls. He judges people at all stages of life. I don't want him to be this crazy all powerful death god because I think that's a bit naff. He's not necessarily evil, nor good. Just a super cool dude with a job to do, sent by the gods. Maybe he's a demigod.

Keywords I'm narrowing down with: obsidian, weapon, mortal, gift of the gods, night sky/constellations, smoke, animal guide (probably a snake) turquoise, mayan shapes, mirrors

I really like your sketches from your sketchbooks.

Some further exploring. I'm feeling the time pressure as I've been busy with work. I like so many different directions and I just want to keep trying new things!
