Okay, one last post before I blow up the internets with heaps of posts!
In the last 2 weeks I've had my half yearly exams (since this is technically term 2 because last year of high school), so during my breaks I decided to have some fun.
In this work I aimed to mimic Ayami Kojima's art style, and goodness her Castlevania art is really something else! So while I was studying for stuff like maths and English, I was also studying someone else's art. Didn't actually think about that before... interesting o_O
So here is Soma Cruz from Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow. This is more of a study than anything else, so the mimicking work admittedly isn't the most stellar out there.
For this work I went from a value painting to colour using Keinan Lafferty's method (putting normal layers below the 8 bit b&w layers). First time I've done this, and it actually worked out great! No need to rely on the gradient maps anymore, which I won't have access to if my CSP license expires.
Painting fur is definitely something I'll need to work on, since here it looks kinda dead... lol
I learnt a lot about how other artists work during the making of this though, and in addition, I had loads of fun during my exam period because of this!
Of course for the sake of comparison, here's the original portrait by Ayami Kojima: http://www.creativeuncut.com/gallery-04/art/caos-soma-cruz2.jpg
I really love her style <3
Also sorry if I was meant to just lump all of this into 1 post. Wasn't too sure how to go about it
