Hello! Quick question: is there any country restrictions?

Go to the Forums, click on the small red Art War 2D or 3D and post it there with the right naming format. Take a look at how other participants did it.

Question, I've understood that we can't make fanarts or take existing concept but.

Is it possible to make a brand new character that is from en existing world?
For example make a Tauren from the WoW world with simbols ecc from that world but an original design?

Thanks.

Okay stupid question but what does it mean that the concepts must all fit on one "sheet"?

You can take inspiration from the character designs from existing characters, but try to make it as original as possible. For example, you shouldn't take the symbols of Tauren straight off the 'book'. You can twist it, redesign them in a way that best suits your vision for the competition.

A "sheet" implies thumbnails, sketches, iterations, final concept piece, etc. all in one document. You can find examples on any art forum/site or searching for a concept art sheet.

What specifically defines fantasy or sci-fi? I feel like my idea could go either way. Personally I'd go sci-fi when I consider my backstory, but it looks like sci-fi in this case is based off of technology. Or does that matter?

Damn this is really nice oppurtinity for artists to "git gud". I'm so excited to work and also see what others are doing :)))

oow thanks, I might just be lazy than and do a 8k map with auto unwrap, that will probally need a lot of sowing and breaking to get the right hard surface shading though :confounded: aaah, i'll just do it the usual manual way.

Are Quebec residents able to apply?

there is a limit on the age / residence?

Hey guys, I have a question that's kinda bugging me... idk how to put it, hope it makes sense:

How important is the ART WORLD part of the theme? Should it be apparent in the final designs/illustrations than there is a war and, above all, that it's happening in an "art world" (whatever it is)? Or am I just overthinking it and it's alright to just pick sci-fi or fantasy and make a random-ish (no "art world" related) champion character?

I'm guessing it's something open for interpretation, but I had to ask, just in case.

"Art world" refers to the surreal world that your hero/champion would exist in. It doesn't have to be an all out war, though. Pesky rivalry, fights, etc. can be used to push the "fantasy vs sci-fi" message you're to convey! More than anything, your character needs to be able to convey what sort of situation he/she is in, including those that support/rally for him/her! Hope this helped. ^^

this is so exciting! Although I am a little confused on something, to post our progress, that has to be on a separate topic right? Or can we still post it on the same topic but to post our final entry has to be all on one post with the sketches included on that one post?

All in the same topic. All final work in one post if you can.

Hello there, it is said ''international art contest'' , but most of the time some country and province still cant take part in it ( blizz contest is a good ex ), It there any problem if I am from Québec ( Canada ) , if not I shall start this today !!!! cant wait to know !

Question, can I delete my thread and post a new idea/entry? Haven't started working on the actual model yet, just posted a sketch and a ref sheet. Thanks.

Sure thing!
*I deleted it for you. So feel free to make your new topic @j11 !

Awesome, how can I delete it?

@bramnijland Hi! You need to create a new topic. Go here and click on the New Topic (upper right corner).
Let me know if you need any help!

Quick question: for the illustration does it have to around 2048x2048 or anything above 2048x2048?

@Mary_Alfa If your country is not on the list, then you sadly can't win. You do have 2 options though; participate just for fun or have another family member abroad participate and accept the prizes for you.

For our submission in the Art War should we have everything in one post? Like should we put our final image in the post showing our concept art and WIP images? Or will the final image be in a separate post?

Hi, I'm new and I really want to participate. Sadly, all I have for digital art is my phone and a cheap stylus. This isn't really a problem, except that the requirements for the image is 2048 x 2048 pixels. My phone is only 640 x 1136 pixels. Can I still participate? If not, I still want to do it and have my work be judged. Is that possible? Thanks

Do we have to choose a side or can our character represent both sci-fi and fantasy?

@jlevine post the concepts, sketches and wips into your topic gradually as you make them. You can put the Concept Sheet and Final Illustration into a new post (in the same topic). If you want to be sure, it's good to write "This is my concept sheet" "This is my final illustration" above them, then there will be no room for confusion!

@kaiiimo Hello! You can participate anyway, but if you want to have your work judged, you will need to post the final images in 2048 x 2048 pixels. If there is really no other way, you can try enlarging the image (at the expense of quality)? Or paint your character + important elements on your phone, and add background etc on computer?

@fonx32 This is a war!! You have to choose a side.

Hey =) First of all ... a really cool event you guys have planned in the backyard =D

Just two little questions:

  1. What is exactly the definition of "fantasy" in your case? I mostly see medieval-like characters, but would create some character living in the 19th century ... is this also allowed?

  2. What about the general "Topic" of the ArtWar. Should the character be designed to be able to stand a chance against "SciFi" character or is the ArtWar just the title of the challenge without any deeper meaning? Should my hero be the one, able to win the war between SciFi creatures and the fantasy faction ... or "just" another hero pulled out of my mind without any deep meaning?

Would appreciate some clarification on this topic =)

Fantasy doesn't mean historical and the story behind your concept is all up to you as long as you keep the rules in mind.
