Just recently I did this hair study. Not my best work for values but I learned a lot about shape and texture.

In the past, 'being slow' has been a bit of a pain point for me, so one of the things I'm trying to work on is speed. I know the ability to work faster comes with experience, but I wanted to challenge myself to see how quickly I could produce a painting of decent quality.

8 hours is not very fast by pro standards but last year it would have taken me easily a month to finish a full color painting like this. (Before 2019, I worked exclusively in grayscale and my paintings varied between 3 and 20+ hrs.) I've learned to simplify my forms a bit better, improved my ability to pick colors, and developed a more consistent workflow.
