Good work @Kosmonaut! I really like your approach to study! Keep them comming!
Thanks, I'm still trying to figure out what is effective and not effective practice
Today I did some more form studies and I attempted to do a figure study since I haven't done them in a while nor have I done them that much in general. I spent way too long on getting the skeleton done and trying to get it accurate but that's how you improve your observation skills I guess. Hopefully, I can finish it tomorrow and still have time to do facial features before my brain shuts down from too much thinking and observing.
I finished the figure study today and practiced some ears and mouths. I also did another form study as well. I plan on making a character out of the figure study I finished today but not sure where to take it idea-wise.
Today I did some more gesture and form, while also being able to do some mouth sketches and I finally started portraits. I have a sketch that I will shade in greyscale tomorrow. I also usually don't share my gesture here anymore since I have uploaded a lot already, but today I did action poses for the first time and good lord I didn't know what I was in for. I ended being proud of what the end result was but I spent half the time trying to process what was happening.
I have spent my week working on and completing a character sheet for a story I want to tell in the future, so I can finally call it done but some things are due to change in the future.
long time no post! I took some time to work on an animation and got halfway through it before deciding that I missed be able to practice as much as I used to. Today I did some more head rune practice and also tried to keep my planes of the head knowledge sharp by practicing it today as well. I am back on the grind of practicing and hope to improve some more. feedback is always welcome le time know if anything looks off. I also did a portrait for self-portrait day yesterday as well that I plan on painting later.
today I did my first attempt at greyscale portrait painting I think it turned out pretty good. there are some mistakes I could fix that I noticed but overall pretty proud of how it turned out.
Well done Kosmo! The animation is going well, i really like it!
Good job!
thanks, I'm currently putting it on hold at the moment I may come back to it later to finish it but not sure
some more head rune and planes practice
Today I did my first attempt at doing gesture from my imagination and I think it went well overall but It still has some issues I could fix the more I do it.
here is some more studies I did today
Hey! What method is this? I'm not familiar with it. I think practicing the raillys method will help you out a lot!I recommend the method that Angel ganev uses which is a mix of raillys and loomis Here is a link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GyzcUNU3au0&t=679s he shows you how to layout the face.
I know the Reily Method and how Angel teaches it but I personally don't like it. I usually just stick with the Loomis method and fill in the features from there. I already learned how to do the Loomis before and it's much faster imo to sketch a head shape and then fill in the features. The face plane method that I use is from Marco Bucci's course on breaking down the head into planes and how to construct the features geometrically from different angles to simplify and shade them. Here is some more greyscale practice that I have been working on this week, I feel like this went a lot better in terms of smoothing the gradients and I finally feel like I have a grasp on skin and hair. The lighting was changed so I could practice adding more shadows and fixed the hair and some of the facial structure based on some feedback from the discord server.
Yes the transition looks smoother, but why did you decide to switch the lightsource/angle?
I scrolled through your Art Journey so far and I have to say your gesture drawings are really cool! I admire how much practise you put into those! Can't wait to see more of your art journey ^w^
I did that because I submitted feedback for Marc last week and had the same fort of reference that he said isn't good to study from, so I changed the light source to add more shadows. I also wanted to challenge my knowledge on the planes of the head to see if I could change the light source to be believable.
Thank you!! that means a lot
