So my goal with this challenge is to treat it like a piece for my illustration portfolio. But for that I need to have a clear idea of what kind of illustration I intend to make a career out of, e.g. promotional art, book covers, collectible card games, splash art.
Then once I have a clear idea what it is intended for i can design the illustration to evoke the ideal response from the viewer, e.g. "I can't wait to play this game", "I need to read this book", "I know how this card fits within the universe", "I have to play this champion when it's released".
At this point in time I want the viewer to feel like this character has godly powers, and that he has a strong bond with his owl. This is a buddy story. A man and his owl, bestowed with powers from the gods, on a quest to find and fight the evils rising up from the underworld.
So I guess that means this will be a BOOK COVER.
Here are my first round of thumbnails. So far I like 5, 8, and 10. Though I don't think I've found the nugget yet.
I'd like have 4 different draft illustrations with values before I start finalizing the character concept sheet and then working on the final illustration.
Which one do you like best at this point? And/or do you have any comments or critiques that might help?
