ok guys this week I focused on my personal project and i'm happy with it since i wrote a quite in depth description of the world, also because I got a bit carried away. anyway here it is:
"The continent where the story takes place has a name for each population. Population 1 calls it ”Mida” and call themselves “Midans”, while they call population 2 “Outsiders”. Population 2 calls their home land “ Lakstan” and they call themselves “ Lakstanians”. Lakstanians call the continent “Amritia” and they call Midans “Amritians”
Midans and Lakstanians cohexists in the same world, but they speak different languages. Lakstanians see Midans only as monsters and because of this they just fight against them to gain lands and, this way, reduce their problem of overpopulation.
-Astronomical/simple geography
this planet orbits around a star that is a little bit smaller than the sun but this is compensated by the radius of the orbit also being a little shorter than ours. There are two moons orbiting the planet at the two points that forms the diameter of their orbit. In the planet there are three main continents. One where now Midans and 2 live, one that is significantly smaller and is the home country of Lakstanians and the last one that is hostile to any kind of life because of really strong radiations and natural disasters, due to the fact that it stands in between two tectonic plates.
environment - Midans
There are four environments that this population has adapted to:
The far north, not of the world, just of this continent. It's cold, there aren't much organic resources and the water is contaminated but at least there are steep mountains which make it easy to defend cities against creatures and others. Here, too there are mutant animals.
The east of the continent( the nearest zone to Lakstanians) where environment modifications are more rare, even if there are great differences in temperature between the different part of the day since it's semi-desertic.
The far east of the continent that is full of geotermic activity and has mutated animals. There are vulcanos with loads of sulfur, that makes rain so acid that it melts stone, even if it can't melt the material used by locals to defend themselves. In this part of the continent strange phenomenons happens, like ice that's hotter than water.
Last but not of the list the north-west of the continent, where there is an archipelago. This part of the continent is characterized by a very strong tide, which covers up the whole archipelago twice a day, making it's inhabitants basically amphibious. There aren't particular predators in the water and the archipelago has a lot of materials and resources, making it an important tourist attraction.
environment - Lakstanians
this population has occupied the south of the continent, the absolute safest zone of the continent in term of mutations( the strangest thing you can find here is animals without fur) but quite dangerous because of the creatures that lives in the territory next to it. The climate is warm but not hot and the ground is fertile.
environment - creatures and Midans's mutants
mutants and creatures live both in the center,in the west and towards the south of the continent. Once they had the south too but now Lakstanians took over it.
When Midans find mutants they take them to the nearest city to cure them and turn them back into basic humans. Creature insteads ignores mutants because they understand they would be harmful for their health.
Nation History- Midans
Midans once lived both in Mida and in the other continent, whis is now uninhabitable. They had no interest in killing creatures, but they surely had an autodistructive tendency, which led them to a world war, fought with extremely advanced chemichal weapons. This war completely wiped out the two main nations and made the life on the other continent impossible. People who managed to save themselves, and their descendants, are the ones that now form Midans. The fragile balance of nature on Mida though, has been altered by this war, forcing survivors (which already had to adapt to the changes in their nature), to find a way to get over nature-imposed difficulties. Survivors then created new countries, which evolved into today's zones. Due to the horrors that the victims of the war saw, Midans are now trying to keep the peace at all costs. In fact the whole war was documented afterwards, with great attention to details, to avoid repeting the same errors. Because of this Midans are also afraid of big conflicts.
Nation History- Lakstanians
Lakstanians also come from a dark past: from it's beginning, this population developed using power and brute strength. As tribals they ruthlessly killed all of their opponents, mainly under the guide of some sort of leader. With time and new discoveries the govern became a monarchy, with a restricted parliament. Technological advancements have been made and a new problem rised: around 5 hundred years ago the monarch of the time became a dictator, that took over the country by controlling all of Lakstan's machines. He didn't had any kind of moral principle and used every immoral stratagem to keep his power. This way he basically controlled the people and cancelled their privacy. Fortunately after nearly a century of iron fist citizens managed to kill him, proclaiming the Lakstanian republic. Of course people did not wanted a situation like that to happen ever again, so they set up a large list of strict rules to preserve citizen's privacy and to split political power between classes. The idolization of war though was so rooted that this episode wasn't enough to erase it. Nowadays the republic lost part of it's ideals, creating a society that favors the middle class, but with a focus on privacy still.
Life – Midans – general
the
Midans are strictly linked to machines. Due to radiations their body started to produce machinery oil and they took advantage of it. The family dynamics are unchanged but, to limit overpopulation (since, thanks to the link with machines and the discovery of how to stop aging, people where basically immortal), there could only be one child per family and divorce is possible. The first 2 decades of life are passed in school, which is focused on self conscience and on machines, which from the eighteenth year are a part of everyday life. At eighteen, in fact, teenagers can get their first permanent mecanichal part. People can also choose to stay separated from machines but this way some jobs are obviously unfeasible, not to mention that in the archipelago people have to wear a mask to get out of their home when it's underwater and in the far east people can get out their city only on special trains that resists acid and lava. After the first two decades of education people could get a job and at 25 the aging process is stopped. The most common job positions are :
1. Gatherers : divided into organic(who gathered fruits, berries, basic resources and water), non-organic ( who gathered minerals and other non organic resources) and assistant ( who, defended by the warriors, gathered, and brought to the nearest city, mutants and injured warriors).
2. Repairers/doctors : divided into people repairers (who cured people, repaired their mechanical parts and did periodical checks to insure people's help) and environment repairers ( who took care of plants and houses maintanances)
3. Warriors: either defending assistants gatherers from creature or the cities from creatures and mutated animals
4. merchants
5. teachers and researchers
6. artists
Job limitation due to mechanical parts changed from a population to the other and they are the following (n stands for “no mechanical part”, 1...2 a means either “ one mechanical arm” or “two mechanical arms”,1...2 l means either “ one mechanical legs” or “two mechanical legs”, w stands for wings or any sort of flying device, s is a spine-connected shield against acid rain and lava and t is either a tail or flipper to attach instead of feets :

all of the mechanical parts are modular and come in standardized measures, but every inhabitant is free to modify them. In fact the vast majority if not all the people in this population modified their mechanical parts to adjust them to their needs and artistic preferences. Because of overpopulation also some scientist has the only job to find an uninhabited place, either on earth or in space, where it would have been possible to form a colony. When someone dies their whole family receive a three months payed break from work and generally the support of all the people leaving near the family.
Life – Midans – particularities of different zones
-Far east
Cities are topped by a transparent energy field to avoid any harm caused by eruptions or acid rains to the city or the citizens. To get out of the shield people must have a spine-connected shield against acid rain and lava to keep them safe. In this zone inorganic gatherers are a lot more than organic gatherers because organic resources here are hard to find. For the same reason the majority of people and city's energy is achieved by geothermic plants, located outside the city in caves and underground tunnel ( to avoid to spend energy protecting them from rain) near volcanoes. This zone is in contact, economically too, with the east zone. In the far east zone there is a naturalistic kind of religion, but nothing too far from reason. To make exploring this zone easier some adventurers use lizard-like paws or propulsion based technologies and, sometimes, a phase gun to immobilize small animals. To ensure environment repairers in this zone from avalanches they have to wear an exoskeleton, capable of resisting great impacts.
-Far north
here the rivers are contaminated but fortunately they flow on really steep mountains, granting to the nearby population to exploit them by creating hydroelectric plants, that, together with solar energy, nearly fulfill the need for energy of decontaminations plants, cities and citizens. Sometimes though this isn't enough so this zone buys resources from the archipelago, which is full of them. The population that lives here is just a bit more selfish than the others, but not too much. Here it's common to have a pet, achieved by curing a mutant animal found by explorers. here there isn't any kind of traditional religion, apart from some minorities. Here, too, there are less organic gatherer than inorganic gatherer and , as in the far east, the people going outside of the cities need some kind of protection, but not against acid or lava, rather against falling. This protection consinst in every kind of flying or floating device or wings (but wings require an attachment to the spine, which leaves a scar if removed since to better incorporate the attachment some skin and some flesh is removed)
-East
here there are less modifications to the environment, resulting in an environment where life is easier, except for the fact that this zone is semi-desertic. Houses are built with an internal regulator which refreshes them during the day and warm them during the night. A lot of the mechanical components in this zone are of a bright color, to avoid overheating. A lot of the energy needed by this zone is provided by solar panels and fresh water is achieved both by the use of an innovative aerogel technology and by the filtering of sea water, transported to this area from the coast by an incredibly long tube system. They also have a system to keep people warm during the night that consists of self-warming clothing that cover up every bit of the body.
-Archipelago
This island is mainly populated by third sector workers, due to it's position and it's natural beauties. There are also loads of organic gatherers and merchants, because of the high number of natural resources, useful even for the zones who are lacking some. Houses have water-tight doors and really wide windows, also water-tight. Water isn't really deep and there is a lot of biodiversity in fish species.
Life – Lakstanians
Everyone, including the working class, lives an extremely long life thanks to the discovery of a particolare serum and periodical medical visits. Proletarian's lives is not about manual work as much as coordinating machines, which are able to build and assemble mainly medical structures, logistic transport sistems and weapons. Schools are not about thinking as much as they are about doing: the lessons has a strong inclination toward practical jobs and based on the grades in each subject and the need of it the govern decided the proletarians job. The middle class instead is able to choose between managing different factories, third sector activities, becoming an artist, becoming a scientist or becoming a politician. The only way for proletarians to level up their social class is either having really high grades, thus becoming the apprentice of famous middle class mens ( but very few could get ahead this way) or either joining the army as simple soldier and achieving war merits. This is the main difference between the two classes but the middle class also has less days to work (only 3 instead of 6) so that they has more time to manage their activities and to entertain themselves. Middle class mens also joined the army to get new lands, but they fought just maneuvering drones.
Hierarchy – Midans
in this society the highest people in hierarchy are people who take care of others, with some exceptions. This includes: repairers/doctors that have saved a lot of lives, gatherers who, escorted by warriors, have successfully took back lots of mutants, warriors who defended their city from creatures, warriors who killed really strong creatures and so on.
Hierarchy - Lakstanians
This society is a bit like England during the Victorian age except man and womans are equals and war. There is basically a strong middle class from which came scientist and artists, both very respected in this society and a ruler class. There is also an army, made out of proletarians full of hopes and middle class members who controlled drones from behind the scenes, and a third class formed by machines who mainly took care of the third sector, basically being slaves controlled by the middle class.
Hierarchy – creatures
the hierarchy here is simple, the more you kill the stronger you get, the stronger you are the more respect you have.
-Economy – Midans
not all sectors are much developed in every zone, since the difference difficulties led to different ways to adapt, causing less important sectors to be less developed. For this reason the economical situation of this population is different from zone to zone, also because food isn't always necessary.
The primary and tertiary sectors cores are the archipelago and the far north. The archipelago is just full of tourists, but also of primary resources like food, minerals,plants,etc.., while the far north has the most advanced school of this population, attracting students from all the other zones. The secondary sector has instead it's heart in between the far east and the far north, but closer to the east. Both of this territories, though, have an underdeveloped primary sector, which is also not at it's prime, but better than here, in the east. Even if there is a very strong secondary sector there is a strong attention towards avoiding pollution. Commerce is very active both in the far north and in the far east, since they're not really independent in terms of energy. Differently from the Lakstanians there are no clear class distinctions but there are some exceptions, some of these are: merchants from the far north/far east who sells the products of the local industries, merchants that sells organic resources from the archipelago to other zones, famous inventors/ mechanical customizers and really active warriors. Apart from these exceptions the wealth is quite fairly distributed between the zones, which almost felt as one big family. There is a unique coin, to simplify trades between the zones.
-Economy - Lakstanians
The first sector is mainly situated on the center-east of this population's territory, while the second is situated mainly on the center-west. Both are mainly automated by machines, which are controlled by proletarians, who are managed by the middle class, who basically gets all the money generated by this process. In the southern part of this zone and on the coasts the most advanced sector is the third one, which is also controlled by the middle-class. Basically proletarians live only with what is mainly needed, while robots are just slaves. Commerce is mainly done in the center- south of this territory, or at least the big part of it, since there is also a capillar net of local markets, with all kind of products. This territory has it's unique coin and the more valuable coin is worth 40 … but there are also less valuable coins and more valuable banknotes. A coffee is worth 20... . The average proletarian salary is 13500..., while the average middle class men gets about 80000.... .Artist, scientist and politician, thought, get even a higher salary than the middle class men.
-Culture and Mythology – Midans
As always there are differences between zones. The far north worships a philosophic kind of god, since this zone is highly populated by scholars. There are no priests, since the relationship between the people and this god is more reserved. The far east idolize two natural kind of gods, with priests, services and other kind of open religious activities, but this religion is shared only by around half of the population, the rest don't worship any god, with the exception of minorities that comes from the north or the east. In the east a quarter the population believed in an ethereal kind of god, who doesn't have a physical form, but permeates every bit of space in the world, while the rest is agnostic. This religion is not as open as the far east one but also not as reserved as the far north one. There are priests but they don't do services. The east population is the most open-minded, free and adventurous one, similarly to the archipelago's one. The other two, in particular the far north, are less opened to radical changes in ideologies. In the north though the closeness of mind is counterbalanced by the influence that universities and studying places have on the population. Studying places are libraries and buildings dedicated to a particular subject where people could go to learn more about it by consulting books, people that have a better grasp of the argument and professor that teaches it. Studying places are not only for students, they are open to people of any age,sex and religion. In every zone there is a big interest towards the customization of people's mechanical parts, both artistically then technically. The best customization are replicated and exposed in the squares of the city they are created in. When someone dies it's a big deal for his whole zone, since deaths are rare in this populations, so funerals are generally crowded. In the far east especially the sense of community in the singular cities is really strong. Everyone in this population is an altruist, even if some are more altruist than others.
-Culture and Mythology -Lakstanians
There are no gods, but progress is idolized to the point that it is commonly known as some kind of entity almost. Everyone wants to be a part of it and this kind of ideology is what fuels proletarians to work long days of work for a minimal wage. Woman aren't discriminated but there is a distinction between feminine and masculine still. Another big aspect of this population's culture is the mith of war and combat, but not really of war heroes, since the ones who fight directly are proletarians, given that the middle class fought piloting drones. Criminality is common.
-Vehicles- Midans
Vehicle, at least personal ones, are not much common in this population. The main vehicles are magnetic trains from and to different cities and war vehicles, but only to transport warriors during big expeditions. Other than this the only other vehicles are ships to get to the archipelago, ambulances, some urban transports and vehicles to carry resources during big expeditions.
-Vehicles- Lakstanians
the Lakstanians formed a very structured vehicle net, with very long roads, that reach most places of this zone. At least one out of two family has a personal vehicle. There are also flying vehicles that transports people from and to their home country. Soldiers are transported to the battlefield by vehicles that can't carry many of them. There are also submarines and ships kind of vehicles, but they are far less common.
-Homes and city structure – Midans- general
The towns of this population are irregular, but there are some common points between them: there is an hospital in every city. There is a square in the center of the city, which is a social meeting point for people of all ages, and is intended as a place that could positively stimulate people's minds. This is also the reason behind the exposition of the most interesting contemporary customizations to mechanical limbs. There aren't economical activities in the main square, except for a big market that sold all kinds of mechanical parts, from different limbs and extensions to simple bolts and screws. All around the square is situated an area full of universities, learning places, libraries and museums. Every 1 km Ca. There is a shop that sold energy and food. Other supermarkets and shops can be found more frequently. There is a specific part of the city, different from every zone, where economical activities are mainly focused. Usually this area is on the opposite side of the city from where industries are, but there are some exceptions. Police station are not seen frequently since criminality isn't really rooted in this society. This isn't true everywhere thought. In the east in particular there is an underground association much similar to mafia, but much stealthier and less known, who managed an important drug trade, other than lots of red light districts. This zone in particular is not much prone to follow hard rules.
-Homes and city structure – Midans- east
The local population felt really free and this affected a lot of factors, like the city structures .This varies a lot, depending on which part of this semi-desertic territory the city is build on. There are also big variations in sizes, from metropolis to small villages. But even in smaller villages there are at least one energy shop and one hospital. It isn't rare tough, to find markets or industries out of their relative zones. There are churches for the local cult and next to them there are the habitations for the priests, who don't celebrate services thought. Houses here tend to have tent-like shapes and thanks to a particular technology they change color from a light one during the day to a dark one during the afternoon to retain heat for the night. The commerce is mainly focused in the south-east part of the cities, while industries are mainly focused in the north part of the cities. In the cities located in the south-east of this zone, especially along the coast, the main square is closer to the south-east limit of the city and they are an even more important meeting point for the local social life. In the center-north of the east zone criminal organizations are more rooted. They aren't much violent since they don't wanted to attract much attention, but they own red light districts, they sell drugs and they do other kinds of illegal activities.
-Homes and city structure – Midans- far east
here the city structure is more similar between different cities and, since alimenting the shield against the acid rain required quite a bit of energy, there aren't much small villages. Criminality is less developed in this zone but there still is some, especially near the boarder with the east zone. In the north part of the cities are situated industries, while commerce is more oriented towards the south of the cities. Commerce between cities in this zone isn't very developed, because of the cost of transporting goods between them. To relieve people from feeling trapped inside cities, the houses are much different from one another, both in stiles and in dimension. There are districts with particular themes for the houses, so their diversities isn't random. Around the main square churches can be found, but these do not change their architecture according to their relative districts. Cities has one main church which, depending mainly on it's position and most common people's preferences, idolized one of the two gods of the local religion. Here and in the other churches services and national holiday's are celebrated by priest who lived inside of these churches, kinda like monks. So social life is a bit decentralized from the main square even if only like half of the population is part of this religion. Cities are topped by an energy shield that protects them from the surrounding natural disasters.
-Homes and city structure – Midans- far north
Cities in this zone have a stair-like structure. Elevators and escalators can be found every once in a while to get to the upper levels of the cities. There are walls and signals to avoid people falling off the edges of the different levels and of the city itself. There are flying vehicles to transport people from one city to another. There are vets in this city, since people felt isolated and cured mutant animals to get some companions. This zone don't have churches, because the local people's god is a philosophical god. Universities and every other building that increased people's knowledge are really common and developed in this zone. Studying places in particular where really visited by the locals, turning also into a meeting point where people could learn pretty much everything. Industries are mainly situated in the south-east part of the city, while commercial activities are mainly focused in the north-east part of the cities.
Homes and city structure – Midans- archipelago
the archipelago's houses are built to resist great pressures, since they get fully covered by water twice a day. All of the doors and windows are thick and water-tight. When the water rises the houses are entered by a trapdoor below the main entrance, which is accessible trough staircases. All buildings have a device that filters oxygen and other air components from the water that surrounds them. This system activates when the buildings get underneath the water. People can exit their houses using a particular suit (that changes shape only when pushed by inside), to shield citizens from the water pressure. There are some part of the city, for example the main square or some open places characterized by social interaction, that are covered by a transparent dome, which can be entered by different airlocks, granting an air based ambient even when water rises. The industries occupy a small part of the cities, which is generally the corner/side that is further from coasts and tourists attractions, while commercial activities are situated on the opposite site. Socializing isn't much difficult since there are rarely crowded places, especially when water rises. Criminality isn't really a problem, even if occasionally you can meet thieves and robbers, due to the fact that some of the tourists were quite rich. For this reason police stations were slightly more common. There are some churches dedicated to minorities from other zones and they are situated near the knowledge-destined part of the city, in particular they develop from the center towards the most residential parts of the city.
-Homes and city structure – Lakstanians
all of the Lakstanians's towns are strictly geometrical. They have 2 main roads, intersecting perpendicularly at the center of the city, forming the city's square. From the main road several perpendicular roads(one every five hundred meters, measure that I'll define as a “system”)that lead to every part of the city. Around the main square there are the main commerce activities, while in the east part of the city is concentrated the industry and in the west part schools and other places destined to learning. These learning places are splith in two: the north part and the south part. In the south part entering places like libraries and museum are free and they are mainly focused on narrative and entertainment, since they are especially designed not to raise proletarian's awareness. The north part is full of buildings focused on real learning, all requiring a monthly fee that the vast majority of proletarian could not afford(but even if they could they wouldn't since they have one day of rest a week and they spent it on entertainment). The north and the south parts of the city are only residential areas, with a supermarket every two systems, forming a chessboard-like pattern. every 5 systems there is an hospital. Every every 250 systems there is a stadium. Public transports traveled one street from one end to the other and the one next to it in the opposite sense, to make traveling in the cities easier for all. There's a police station every 15 systems. Every system there is one shop who focused in some kind of goods. Near the center there are 3 to a maximum of 4 shops per system. There aren't much single houses, it is a lot more common to see buildings divided into different apartments. Every 5 systems there is a park.
Communication devices – Midans
Midans also has a net, but peoples were connected to it from a chip situated inside the brain and connected to peoples sight and hearing. A person could connect to the sight and hearing of another person, but only if the second person accepted the first. The chips were impossible to hack, and who tried is sent to prison and afterwards surveilled to avoid him trying again. Under any circumstance no person, independently from their political role, could connect to a person without this person's permission. Entertainment as we know it isn't much popular since people preferred traveling/customizing mechanical pieces/learning. News were passed trough these devices, only if accepted obviously.
Communication devices – Lakstanians
There aren't telephones, but there are eyeglasses, with earphones connected to them, who projected apps, movies or images in front of the user. They're also capable of recording videos and photos and share them to others. These devices are connected one another by a net, much like the internet, and they had an A.I. assistant incorporated into them. The A.I. is capable of holding a conversation and to remember it, in case the user wanted to recollect a piece of information. The conversation with the A.I. are strictly private and no one can be charged for a crime for something they confessed to it. It had an affordable cost, even for proletarians, and was considered essential. It charged wireless from stations placed all around the cities or from sunlight.
Ethics- Midans- general
this population is particularly altruistic and they strive to make their cities a better place for everyone. People support each other and there is a strong sense of community. Criminality is a very limited phenomenon, restricted to some zones. Family is a lot more important than in population 2 and elder people are treated with great respect since they have lots of knowledge. In fact this population, some zones more than others, always want to accumulate knowledge and comprehension of all subjects, in particular physics and mechanics. Understanding deeply natural elements was the aim of a lot of people. In fact after a typical work day (6 hours, from 8 to 14 30 with a 30 minutes pause between 12 and 12 30) people dedicated to research, but also charitable activities. There is an attention towards other people's mental health, resulting in more psycologists around. The idea that failure is a part of success is shared by most and people don't get angry when you give them feedbacks on what they're doing. Focus is more valued than it is in our society and workers are definitely more covered than they are in our society .
Ethics- Midans- specific variations between zones
In the east the mentality is more open to changes in ideas and there is a higher general acceptance of people who break the laws. Prostitutes and drugs can be found in the North part of this zone but no one denounces it. In the far east there is a closer mentality, with strict rules, that are not always followed, especially in the cities near the border with the east zone. The sense of community here is stronger and people are generally nicer to each other. In the far north isolation is felt on a personal level but this doesn't preclude the openness of mind that characterizes this zone. This openness comes from the fact that this whole zone is the point of meeting of all of this population's ideologies, ideas and theories. There is an even greater respect towards elderly people than in the other zones, since they possess lots of informations. In the arcipelago too there is a general openness of minds, due to the great diversity in peoples who came to visit it from all of the other zones. Here there was a special interest towards pollution, since the people wanted to preserve this territory.
Ethics- Lakstanians
This population divide clearly what they say and what they do. When talking everyone is a virtuous man/woman, but the reality is that the people who can afford it spend all of their money in gambling, entertainment and prostitutes. The pressure of high standards set by society against the real situation is just increasing criminality and mental deseases across the population. Alienation is also common. Individualism was rooted across all the population and socialization was harder because of this. There is, at least, the bare minimum sense of community that consisted of helping others who struggled. Family is still a main structure in society, but kids are just starting to dissociate from their parents. There is a particular attention towards privacy and people tend to avoid clearly actions that could even slightly violate the one of others. Except for scientists and artists there isn't a particular interest towards education. People merely admire the ones who study but they do not actually study themselves. Psychology isn't really available to proletarians, so they don't get to take care of their mental health."
