19.01.25Term 3, Week 1 Report
This was probably one of the most intense weeks of the course β although in my case it effectively lasted three weeks. Below are the results of my work. π
Clothed Figure Drawing [7/7]One of the more time-consuming assignments. I feel like I can capture fabric folds reasonably well, but Iβm still a bit βafraidβ of stronger contrasts, which makes the overall result look slightly too soft or blurry. Iβm hoping this will improve with more practice.
Primitive Drawings [7/7]
Heads from Photo [7/10]I treated this exercise as an opportunity to experiment with different styles β more shading, less shading, hatching, and so on. Iβve noticed that simple perspectives (a face looking straight ahead) are already going pretty well, but any change in angle quickly turns into a struggle with proportions. I definitely need to work more on head construction (though not necessarily using the Loomis method).
Environment Copy [3/3]Whew, this exercise takes a lot of effort for me. From a construction standpoint, I feel like Iβm getting the hang of it, and the perspective works fairly well too. The real challenge is details β building the basic structure of the entire drawing takes me about an hour, while adding details takes another three. I definitely need to practice drawing trees and bushes, because right now they still look more like random scribbles.
Solid studies! Portraits are looking good. The time investment in those environment studies paid off. Nice!
