Hello! Back with another weeks worth of progress! First off, I really want to learn how to paint, so I found a video my Marco Bucci on how to paint edges. It's a lot of fun I highly recommend it! Nice! i'll check the Marco video later (still got lower body anatomy to go through). The 30 day challenge seems like a summary of a lot of what is done in term 1 and 2, which makes sense.

@daceronine I personally just needed a change from drawing haha, and I think that's mostly what that challenge is. It's nice as a way to practice everything. And thank you!

The 30-day challenge is nice because it goes over a lot of what we're already working on! I'll be honest I cheated and combined days sometimes but that's just because I'm impatient lol

Don't worry about modifying the course a bit. I think we all customize it to some degree. I personally handle the companion guide as a checklist and don't really follow the schedule suggested (I can't). I also skipped the 3D part of term 3 mostly because I had already worked with 3D before and though I use CSP 3D capacity to a limited degree, I have no plans to dwell or make a career out of the 3D skills. Marc even acknowledged in a recent video that depending on what you want to specilize in, you might want to reinforce some areas and be light in others.

Point is, no worries. Customize it as needed and set the schedule to your own pace in whatever way works for you.

Oh yes don't worry, I wouldn't call it cheating Personally, I did the video in one go just to remind myself and practice everything we've already seen. It's also a way of breaking the routine a bit.

@daceronine I never thought of that, I guess it makes more sense to focus on what you want to learn and what you're going to use. And that applies to pacing Art School as well, the structure is there to help timely progression but can be manipulated to fit your needs. Thank you!
@flex.marchal I agree haha, it's a nice review, and I've found myself getting burnt out practicing the same things everyday so it's nice to do something different!

Hello!! It's been a few weeks, life's been crazy busy! Hope you are all doing well!
I've taken a bit of a break from practicing figure drawing and focused more on understanding construction. Here's the last of the 30-day challenge! I learned a lot!

I also found another really helpful youtube video from Proko all about learning the steps of construction! Ignore the fact that I accidentally used an AI image to deconstruct lol, I was wondering why the tentacles were all merging together. My observational skills need some help haha. I tried to use the steps to deconstruct an octopus using a reference and then try constructing one without a reference. I learned a lot from this as well, I think I have a bad habit of trying to learn a skill without putting it really into practice, so this was a step in the right direction!

That's pretty good. You're getting better at manipulating shapes with this challenge. That's a pretty good octopus sketch. I also like the zombie sketch. The fallen hand is a nice touch.

I think you did a pretty good job despite the AI shenaningas (about tenacles merging weirdly), and more importantly, applied it well afterwards. Pretty good use of references.

Zombi looks cool. I personally like the expression. Despite being a zombie and having white eyes, it still comes off very expressive.

@daceronine Thank you! Yeah the AI threw me off, but I should have expected it since I used an image from Pinterest lol. It probably doesn't matter too much since it was less about realistically drawing an octopus and more about learning to break things down into shapes. And the zombie head took sooo long to draw, I spent so much time trying to make it look right. The first few tries looked really off. Thank you!

Hallo again! I'm very excited to be nearing the end of Term 1! While I don't feel like I've got a perfect understanding of structure and perspective, I feel like I've got a good enough grasp to continue and try new challenges! Thank you all for your feedback and support so far!
Today I've just got a big assignment dump lol

The first two are the lineart studies of characters and environments. For the environments I tried to use negative space to place things, and looked for the focal points. I learned a lot about what leads the eye to a certain point.

And...more gesture drawings. I learned I like gesture drawing a lot more when I have at least a few minutes haha. I still see a lot of areas I could improve on, but that comes with mindful practice, so I'll keep trying!

I still feel like I have a lack of patience when I practice point perspective. Idk if anyone has the same issues lol but it's rough! I enjoyed doing the one point perspective assignment more, and I think it shows lol.

Oy it all looks really good. I generally have little patience with environments in general. I've tried to switch my approach when working with perspective and envrionments to make it more fun for myself, but it's still a challenge for sure.

Specifically with perspective it always seems hard to find the right horizon and vanishing points, so what i'll do now is find a piece that matches the perspective I want to use, overlay the ruler to find the vanishing points, then use that ruler setup for whatever I want to do.
In general, I still depend a lot on references, which I don't think is that bad. I know many try to go and get things done from imagination to get better, personally though, whatever works is fine as long as the objective is met.

these look awesome! i love your super ambient shading on the last perspective one! it looks so soft and chill!

and yes i totally get impatient when drawing perspective XD tho if i have a very specific idea in mind, it generally goes a bit faster
