After a few sessions of cracking my head I've finally got the designs down. There's still his scythe to be done but the stress has subsided a little bit.
Composition for concept sheet and first pass for the illustration. I'll have to go through a few adjustments but the big blocks are already set. Just gotta make the poses more... interesting.
Ohhh wow, very interesting character idea! Unique for sure. The illustration composituon looks very promessing. I am waiting to see more!!
@berrysquare Thanks!! Went over to check your thread out, loved your robot
Some adjustments and tweaks on the pose, the previous one was to stoic. I still have a few things to explore before I settle down on a final composition and start rendering.
I am liking the uniqueness of this design. I am interested what the final one will look like.
Love your choice in the weapon!
Thank you so much!
I've done all the needed adjustments, made the bose more dynamic as well as recropped the image for better composition. Also laid down some major blocks of light and flipped the image for examination purposes.
A closer look on the main focal point.
Some notes on planning out the rhythm of the image.
Battle in the air, nice! the puch idea is really nice. If you can someheow capture the movement I could imagine how the head just flies off.
Yeah, there's a lot of subtleties in this pose and it's difficult to get things to feel right. I'm working on doing the line art right now and the mechanism on the character's back is giving me a hard time. The mechanism is actually based on a torpedo gyroscope so I gotta really understand the structure and mechanics of it to be able to draw it. This is where I'm at right now.
I think I've got my pose down. Going into the painting phase. More minor tweaks and adjustments will be done as I paint along. Phew, the torpedo gyroscopes were extremely hard to grasp conceptualy.
Bashing the image with itself over and over again to get some grit because we are not allowed to use phototextures. Hope I can finish it in time....

Concept Sheet and Final Illustration
The original dimensions of the illustration piece is 2812 x 5000 but the forum compresses it to 1800x3200...
hey, awesome entry try reducing your file size by flattening your image. (I would recommend you to save ur original photoshop document as a different photoshop document, then compressing all layers to one single layer, and turn THAT into a jpeg.)
@Steve_Kim Thanks! I tried flattening everything and reuploaded it but somehow it's still the same. I tried editing my final submission posts but the forum is unresponsive and can't seem to do that... Anyways I'm done with the ArtWar. Phew. This was an interesting experience.
congratulations on finishing up in time. you did an awesome job.
