I prefer the previous one. And I understand why people like this closeup shot. Maybe it is just me, but I find the position of your character in the frame is a bit awkward.
After a few trials, I think I figured out how to fix it. I feel like there's too much space on the right side, which makes it difficult for my eyes to find their way around the work and identify which object to focus on.
I cropped it (just the right side) and I actually think it looks much better. It really helps in shifting the focus point back to the main object, which is your hero. The victim is a minor object but nevertheless important in connecting each elements in the illustration. But I believe you dont have to include all of the figure in the frame.
You can try and experiment. Maybe you will find something more to your liking.
