Yeh I think I'll probably go for that since I wanted to keep the sphere largely untouched (certainly by the humans) because it seems to be the main source of power.

yeh as difficult as I will ultimately find the translucency I think it's definitely the way to go

I still really like the lineart above but it wasn't transferring to tone well at all because of the shapes in it that weren't so obvious as just lineart.

As such I have essentially been redesigning alot of it so I'm much happier with the whole shape language.

I have been thinking about the backstory to the creation of G.A.I.A and how they would have discovered the god of creation (or from the sci-fi point of view, the source of it's power)

A lab has been set up in the Tanami desert, Australia, the suspected location of the core of G.A.I.A. The name Tanami is thought to be derived from the Walpiri name 'Never Die' and is speculated to be due to extraordinary feats of nature observed there. Exploration scientist are slowly mapping out the area, taking readings from the subsurface earth, with help from an accompanying drone to document the process.

How long does it take you to come up with only one of these illustrations? You're insanely efficient and productive

I think about 4-5 hours. I've been using quite a bit of texturing throughout to speed things up, and today for the painting of the big mining machine I started with 3D (although being quite inexperienced with it i was more likely slowed down by that than anything... ) The second painting of the cave also has a faster start because I used a photo plate (you can see both below)

I've also had LevelUp's youtube videos playing continuously in the background and they've really been helpful.

Our champion who will be the pilot of G.A.I.A is having doubts about the whole G.A.I.A project. Something about stealing Earth's life force and using it for war doesn't sit quite right...

These are the living quarters in one of the labs (the large dome shaped buildings from the first image)

well, essentially yes because it's all for the art war but really I'm just practising as much as I can. It's also the first time I've really created anything like this so it's an experiment too
