Hello, I'm new to Cubebrush and am excited to join this contest. I am taking the fantasy side of the fight (though my character is heavily inspired by myth and history, which I hope still counts as fantasy?).
I am calling my character the Titan of Justice for now, though I'd like to give him a proper name at some point. Here is my reference sheet:
As you can see, I am drawing inspiration primarily from the Renaissance, Middle Ages, and ancient Greek/Roman myth. Since this character is supposed to be the ultimate champion, and one who brings peace, I wanted a character that is focused on justice rather than just strictly being a great warrior. The Titan is a neutral figure that intercedes when justice is needed, whether through peace-making or punishment. He is an incrediblely powerful warrior, but fair in battle. Those on the side of fantasy have implored him to help bring an end to this terrible war, and he agreed- the scales of justice weighed in favor of fantasy this time. Those on the side of sci-fi have avoided justice for far too long, and it is time for the Titan to step in and deliver their sentence: destruction.
I want this character to be awe-inspiring and timeless, and aim to create an almost religious aura about him. When fighters see this champion enter the field, they quake in their boots and know their end is near. Here are some of my early sketches:
I first did some quick silhouettes of the various concepts I was drawing from: a fair and just king, a neutral nature god, and a fierce warrior delivering justice. Ultimately, I decided to try to combine elements of all of these into the character, but am most focused on the image of a King Judge: a leader in battle and in times of peace. Here are a couple more sketches:
They're not much, but here I was deciding between an earthly ruler or a more divine figure. Again, I ultimately decided to compromise; I am going with the divine character, but one that is more prepared for an earthly battle.
Here are my most recent few sketches:
I am trying to find the balance for this character between god and king, and here I tried outfits leaning more god-like, king-like, and warrior-like. The lion skin represents his prowess as a warrior and his position as a ruler, and also alludes to biblical stories, which reinforces the timelessness and awe.
Things I'm not sure of and would like feedback on: his weapon. I did a scepter/staff because it seemed to symbolize ruling, but I think a sword might be better, as that is what blind justice carries. Or perhaps something a little more unusual, like the scythe of Azreal? I'm also not sure whether I want to push the Medieval or Greek/Roman look for his outfit. Any other feedback is very welcome as well! Thanks, and looking forward to seeing everyone else's work.
