Hello! My name is Pam, and I'm super excited to enter this competition. I hope to build my portfolio, gain new insight on the character design industry, and make new friends! I have always loved fantasy stories, though I want my champion to represent a strong female who fights the stereotypes of women in this genre, who are often ornamental, ditzy or weak.
STORY:
Mystica is a strong, stubborn Satyrcorn (satyr-unicorn) warrior from the land of Faeleria. She is constantly underestimated by her enemies and her peers. Those of the unicorn species and subspecies have always been seen as meek and compliant, though they behold powerful magic abilities. Typically, these abilities are used for nurturing and healing, and very few Satyrcorns have offensive abilities. Because of this, they are often protected or taken by stronger races, such as Centauren, Draegonkin, or Windwalkers. They use the Satyrcorn abilities as support for their own militia. Some communities revere them, while others treat them as servants.
Mystica can channel her magic into powerful weapons/shields made of her own light energy. Tired of the subservient roles and poor conditions her tribe is in, Mystica has decided to be the voice of her people, and fight for their independence.
Here is my final image for Mystica, Champion of Faeleria. This was quite a challenge for me, but I feel like I've grown as a artist, and I'm pretty happy with the result. Thank you for watching!
This is the final character sheet. I made a bunch of changes to the original design. I went with a cooler color palate and a solid hair color. The rainbow hair, while pretty to look at, just wasn't giving the impression I was going for. I also decided for solid hooves instead of cleft hooves.
This is my first concept sketch of Mystica in full warrior armor. I've been going back and forth on the armor design. Do I want leather and mail or plate or something more outlandish? Should she be pristine or in tatters?
Here is the beginning of her character sheet, Mystica without her armor. I will be posting different ideas soon. Ideas/comments are welcome!
Here are some armor concepts I'm still working through. Let me know which you like best
Here's some progress I've done on my final painting. More updates to come
