Ok, before even knowing what my champion was going to be, I sketched some concepts to see what would be the best route to go. I liked the wolf one, but it's been done like a hundred times through out the course of this planet, so..... not a very fresh idea XD
The sea armor was at some point my favorite, but then again, we've seen that type of armor before (cough Aquaman cough) haha. I finally came to the realization that I haven't seen a peacock armor or something like that, and that path was clear (as far as I can tell)
So here it is, my first draft with all 3 ideas, and the chosen one is the Peacock Warrior (his name is been worked).

I then clened the idea, polished the "feathers" pattern and lastly went for the back part of his armor. quite happy with how this is going, but totally needs further work. His weapon is also something I still need to work on.

So, I've been polishing a little bit the design and details, and I think I've come to like this modifications up to the point to set them as the final armor. Totally redesigned the belt, and cleaned upt the armor decorations, plus clreaing up (for myself XD ) how the helmet looks on the side.

I also worked on this guy's face. I knew a wanted him to have war paint on his face for..... dramatic purposes hehe. Although I had no ide how he was going to look, I tried some war paint on a base face, and ended up deciding for the second one from the following paints. After that I went into the Face and hair territory. I guess I will go with the top design for his hair. (I don't like the second one, he looks like a princess XD and the man bun will probably be problematic with the helmet)
Anyway, I'll keep working on this, and more posts to come.

Ok, so I've been working on his face, and I fnially got to this point where I'm happy about his facial structure. And he even looks cool with the war paint on. His hair got a little bit polished too, and the side braid became twin side braids (see him from the front...under the flop of hair XD ).

AAAAAAND I finally got to work and decide what his weapon is going to be. I liked the idea of a close combat warrior, just like peacocks' attack (whenever they attack), so the best idea was some daggers. I felt that a standar design would deflate the whole fantasy air I've been trying to convey on this concept, so a slightly unusual design was approached for this. The dagger scabbard was a little bit trickier to come up with, because of the curved nature of the blade. First I tried a big boxy thing, but it just looked awful. Then this ray of light came upon me (hahaha) and decided to do some sort of a "modular" scabbard , but actually it's one piece like any dagger and sword scabbard, and it looks cool too. And yes, I made sure that this design was also functional..... the dagger can get in and out with ease.

All that's left is to come up with the color scheme and this dude's concept will be finished.
PS: his name is still unknown.

The idea of a peacock as the theme is really interesting to use for a warrior. I like it a lot! Maybe have a type of fan as a weapon. This video might give you some good ideas https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WfzcqKUicDY

hey! thanks for the YT video.... it's really helpful. I'm not sure if a fan will work, I'm thinking more like daggers (to keep the close-combat style as in the video XD )

So, this is my FINAL DESIGN, I think the idea reads very well, and it's faithfull to the core idea (a peacock). I think the color scheme is good, and it helps with the whole peacock aura he has. Naturally the armor is made out of metal, so expect shiny blues and greens in the final illustration. The only thing I still have to decide is his hair color, either black or dark blue. I might try adding some pink and yellow to the feather pattern, but that will be further down the line.

I finally figured out his name.... Tike, the peacock warrior. I did some research and among all the fantasy names I found, and some deities from multiple religios across the globe, his name is a fragment grom the Hindi deity Kartikeya, god of war. This god is said to ride a peacock.... so there's the connection to my design. On a side note.... I really suck at comming up with original names T_T.

Ok guys! I've been working a little bit on my champion's final illustration, and I hope it comes up really good

I like the idea of him running through a stream in the middle of a forest-fild type of landscape.

Also I started to work on the skin and his facial features.
I'll keep ypu posted on more progress shots.

Hi there! I've been working a lot on the final illustration and it's coming together really well.

I'm working on his armor, piece by piece, really focusing on the light and shadows being correct and that it feels like metal, then I'll add color. I'm planning on poainting it with a color gradient, maybe two separate gradients to get that nice blue-to-turquoise blend from the concept.
With the background I'm also halfway there, I still need to work on the water stream, and obviously the splash from his feet running and all that stuff.......

More wips to come ;D

More wip shots from the final illustration. The background is done, but the colors look so dull, plus I wanted to mess up a little bit the trees sharpness and played with the mixers brush.... I'll come up with something to make those smudges work. Also the armor is ready, with all those details meant to be engraved in the metal. The feathers will be "painted" over (seeing this as a realistic armor production).

I corrected the background's colors with some vibrance and curves, added the water and colored the fabrics in his get up. On a side note, it was not that hard to paint those water splashes, what was hard was to make them look good in terms of natural behavior.

finally I colored the metallic pieces with three separate Gradient Maps to achieve that soft blue-to-turquoise and turquoise-to-green blends in the overall piece. The feather have some yellow and fucsia to add an interesting focal point and to make the feather motif stand out and tie the whole concept together.

FINAL ILLUSTRATION

Here it is! Tike running, ready for battle.

While I was painting, I came up with the idea that his daggers store some sort of magical power which enhances him and his attacks, making him more agile and deadly. This magical power can be activated at will, but only works while he is wielding his weapons.

I'm pretty happy with the outcome, and I hope you guys like him as much as I do.
