Wilfried is a travelling hero on the quest for rescuing the derelicts from evil.
On his journey he has faced many enemies and has captured various powerful trophies.

Here is one of my first sketches where I tried to create the most epic being I could imagine.

Although I think it's epic, i believe a hero who could beat this would be even more epic.

(I've edited the first post, because it would be weird if the first drawing you see is a character I've decided not to draw)

Today I began to erase the pencil lines and trace them with a pen.
The character looks more clearly now but has lost a little of his epicness.

I know its a bit late but I really want to complete my entry and show you how I draw. In the last time it was a little bit to often that I got my motivation from getting closer to deadline... there also was much other work for me to do last week.
This shall be the final drawing for the front view of Wilfried on the concept sheet. I feel this was a really good training for me - and even better for evolving details. It's all done with a black ballpoint pen. I'm not quite shure if I should give it a try to complete the final illustration with digital techniques. I think that would be much faster too. But before that I want to give the back view a similar post-processing.

Today I started with the back view for my character sheet. It's not complete but the most difficult parts are ready.

I completed the finelining of the sketch for my final illustration.

After that was done I really startet to color it digitally. I worked on both peaces simultanously - the back view with ballpoint pen and this one with photoshop.

Everything looks better in color!
Also I made a record of the process with OBS. I'm excited to produce the video! But before that I want to complete it tomorrow.

I also want to show you my thoughts about the name. As I wrote, this was no easy decision for me. I think there are some quite funny names among it. I tried to find a heroic sounding word.

These are all of my first ugly sketches... I think they are positioned almost in the chronological arrangement. The first ones (upper left) are from december and the last one (down right) is from february.

And here are all my first thoughts about weaponry. One idea was a rifle that is also an axe.
I tried to draw a gun that looks like a dragon.
Finally I decided to equip my champion with a cool fantasy sword.

Hi, my name is ZeMatix aka Mathias and I love to draw monsters and characters.
Since december nearly nothing goes through my mind but my epic champion for the ART WAR.
My friends even cannot hear the word "epic" anymore...

I have made a lot of sketches but the creations were not worthy to show yet.

One of the fundamental tasks for me was to find a really epic hero pose. The search took long, but I think I finally found one. Therefore I now really dare to take part in the ART WAR.

This is the sketch for my final illustration:

Today I realized, that there are two drawings to make: a Concept Sheet and the Final Illustration.
So I drew sketches of the front and the back of my character.

It's a fast sketch - I like to go more into the details later. But for the moment I think it's more important to make my participation official.

The name "Wilfried" really was no easy choice. It took hours to convince myself. I think it suits him in a pagan way because he wears something like an antler crown.

I'm really excited what you think about my champion and how he will evolve the next days.
I will try to draw and update daily.

This was epic! In the last hours when I was drawing I often thought about all these other artists that are drawing their champions too.
This contest gave me the motivation to make a step into digital drawing. I've learned alot and I like to get better. It's great to get into the details and I think this one is one of my most detailed works for now. I notice that I could put infinitely much time in the drawing.
Even if the deadline is over my work on this project isn't finished yet.
I will try to post my speed drawing video tomorrow.
