Champion Real name: Andunge "Clever/Smart"
AKA: Engungule "Monster"
Powers: No real supernatural power. Uses his own special crafted inventions and gadgets.
His greatest power is his use of Fear derived from the local tribe legend of the monster.

My hero takes on the identity of a legendary monster to execute justice on the Royal family by bringing them to ruin and to end King Hilandula's reign who has through war with neighbouring tribes brought poverty and suffering to the land.

Legendary Characteristics of the Engungule monster: Its fast and only appears at night so nobody has ever clearly identified it. Brings chaos by ruining crops and harvests. Kills livestock by either ripping them apart completely or only draining out the blood. People also go missing if they wander off too far into the dark. It's tracks always vanish when traced. Believed to be immortal. A sign of death and judgment from the gods because of their displeasure in the people.

One thing however made This Engungule different from legend. It was only targeting the royal family and everyone closely connected to them.

Character backstory
----- Skip this part if you don’t like to read long backstories, Top info is good enough -----

King Hilandula which means "Does not follow" came to power after the death of his father. Raised to be spoiled and greedy by his mother, he began expanding his territory and making war with neighbouring tribes.
He commissioned Andunge's father who was known as the greatest smith in the land to manufacture weapons for him. Andunge's father being a peaceful man refused and this infuriated King Hilandula. Andunge's father was ordered to be executed, his house and all his possessions burned down. As punishment for his father's defiance Andunge being the only child and son had his right hand cut off. He and his mother became social outcasts and they fled to the most distant part of the tribe land where his mother shortly died after. Everything great Andunge's father had done, his noble service to the former king and legacy was erased from history.

Andunge grew up with a deep hatred towards King Hilandula and the royal family. He wanted to live in peace and avoiding royal tribal affairs was his way of doing it. Like his father he too picked up on the smith trade but only working with tools to keep a low profile. He has had to fend for himself from a very young age, learning to use his left hand strongly. He made traps and other useful inventions to aid him in his work. He also picked up merchant trade skills, experimenting with herbs to create potions and remedies. Even with only a left arm, Andunge was physically fit and capable of working a field but he chose not to occupy any land to keep a low profile. He developed a cunning nature of planning and working to acquire what he wanted with the least amount of physical effort. He didn't have a lot but also never lacked anything he needed. In the tribe society he was considered a nobody but to himself he was in complete awareness of his surroundings.

In Andunge's mid 20s the land became very impoverished because of the ongoing fighting between the tribes. To further strengthen his power and army, King Hilandula began to sell portions of land and his own people as slaves to small groups of foreigners that appeared on the coast with ships. In exchange for more powerful weapons(guns), exotic wines and other interesting things his heart desired that his own land did not have to offer. Everyone seemed to be negatively affected except for the royal family.
It was at that time Andunge had an awakening moment.
To save the people by bringing an end to King Hilandula and the royal family. It was time for Andunge to unseal the anger that has boiled up inside him for 2 decades. To embrace the darkness within and become the worst thing imaginable.. The only thing the people fear more than King Hilandula ... The Monster.. Engungule.

Yeah... Its a badass family blood revenge story set around mid 1800s southern Africa area.
Also gives a different perspective to slavery and colonial history most people hardly ever hear.
And... I don't have the best writing skills so hopefully its somehow understandable ^_^; Thanks for reading.

First sketches of my main character. By day a one handed toolsmith named Andunge "Clever/smart". Nothing very much special about his physical appearance.

I'll be sure to write a bit more of his story to explain as I develop the Engungule.

Ignore the logo.. Its just for show >_>;

Paint of Andunge's face. I'm trying to go for a light and not so serious appearance. A body that is more slim and fit than muscular strong. Being One handed(Left) puts Andunge at the very bottom of tribe social hierarchy. Making and repairing tools is his only survival means. All the tribal tattoo markings are considered common. I personally like option 2. Again.. Nothing very special about his daily physical appearance.

I m always in favor of the interpretation and homage of mythology and legends. keep going :+1: you have a very good clay here do something great

Hehe.. Thank you. Sounds more like "You better not F** this up man D: no pressure" x'D

Aand... I have a proper sillhouette to work from.
Yes.. He has a wooden mechanical arm.
Other than keeping hes silhouette balanced in case anybody spots him. Its only used as a tool and doesn't work by itself. He needs his left arm to shape and change any part of its configuration like some rubix sort of puzzle thing.

Maybe in another story setting it could be more but not this one. Hopefully didn't get anybody too excited :frowning:

Interesting background story and illustration. Pity your file crashed and we didn't have more time. Good luck!

Thanks
Aaah no big stuff happens, Arrived a bit late as well so only so much I could really do given the time. The experience was great!

Really enjoy the character and especially his mechanical arm and mask (and shapes) ^^
Glad to hear you learned a lot and had fun even with this short time !

Best of luck and maybe see you in next Artwar(s)
