Fresh concept!
Where are the comic books? Can she summons Stan Lee or something like that?
I'm impatient to see some thumbnails.

@innocent Oh don't worry, Im a massive comic fan, they will be in there, I just have to decide who it will be.

I could use suggestions for peoples favorite characters from literature (Comics count as literature damnit!)

I keep on thinking about having the classic Stan Lee in the spider-man costume too given the timing of all of this.

Been messing around with this more, liking this version. And I do like the idea from @veesketch, works pretty well.

Think I'll ditch the jumpsuit, but maybe I'll circle back on some version. I am just enjoying this cuter version with more casual clothes. Think I'm almost closed in on it and it'll be work time soon.

I like the new update design, she starting to look like a real badass i think one thing you could touch up is the prop itself to something a bit more explored in the sense of different shapes and sizes because that prop is whats going to sell this whole project and its just looking like a normal book case so if you have a bit more time on your hands i would take a second to explore more option and i think you have your self a solid design!

I agree, I was thinking that the scroll legs should really be coming off of scrolls, possibly nailed to the sides of it. I want to get some comic books in there, and then attach some other things to it. I actually have a bookshelf near me that has some fun features that I have to add in there.

Yep, that thing is just way to boring right now. I also have to decide if it is benevolent or not as well. Kind of like the idea of it being like a puppy, but malevolent pets are kind of fun as well... still not sure.

This looks a lot better and I like the new hairstyle!
However, I would recommend trying out an Egyptian skirt instead of the cargo pants
it can still be modern, but might fit the overall Egyptian style better.

@Ana56M Well I tried to mess with some Egyptian skirts just because I always like to try things out, but I didn't come up with anything that I liked more than this idea. I kind of ditched the Egyptian concept over the course of the work, so its ok.

I am thinking that this will be the design I work at this point, I will mess with some more details on the back to make things make more sense. And of course I have to flesh out the book shelf still because its still boring. Wound up being a design mainly based off near modern fashion with a focus on sweeping flat lines (pages) and a bit of use of the appearance of a book (bookmark, pages and leather cover)

I rather like it, and I enjoy warping text as well. Moving on to the bookshelf and then doing the real work part.

Yes, trying out new things is always a good idea . I do like how she's coming out. It gives me Tomb Raider The Angel of Darkness vibes, so that's great :). Keep at it, you're doing great!

Working out layouts now. Gotta mess with this more, but I am getting most of what I want in there now. I want moby dick in the background with Quiqueg riding his back, and the shelf beating one guy and tossing another off the side of the building.

The paint filter is just to simplify things down to basic shapes a bit so that I can see the lines of the tones better.

Original art only! It's not fanart as long as you're not copying /
basing your own design off of any of the existing characters. You can
use any style you want.

And I wanted to make sure that using characters from comics or literature as props would be acceptable. The idea is that they would be summoned out of books by the character concept. Moby Dick, Dracula, perhaps Frankensteins Monster, Smaug, Stan Lee in spider suit (because he wonderful) And they would be made from paper with words from the stories making up the major lines and shapes (probably illegible for the most part)

We try to encourage originality instead of using/copying existing characters. To increase your chances of winning we recommend that you use your own designs only.

One thing that is a bit confusing is that her eye direction and movement is focused one way but the action is happening on the opposite side of the illustration, i would find a way to connect the two so theres some type of story context going on that relates to whats going on, other than that great job, characters looking like a badass

@Fris Yep! That layer was just toggled off for the most recent post, working on making the power obvious in that she is summoning/creating the scroll/paper creatures and not really caring about what is going on behind her because she is confident that its fine.

Gotta come up with some way of showing that its coming out of her more effectively than this one, while maintaining the pose, and show more movement. Ill keep at it, but any suggestions are appreciated!

Bunch more stuff, fleshing out some more, balancing levels, roughing in the whale creature.

I appreciate any comments or criticisms, its all been very helpful and I have been staring at this for too long, flipping the canvas helps but comments from other people helps more.
