Figured id give this a shot. The design i have in mind is a viking/barbarian beserker. I started off by looking at similar designs, as well as frost trolls and other similar monsters. I put this together into a style board.

From this, I had a rough idea of what I wanted the character to look like, so i decided to photobash something together. looks terrible, but helped solidify my idea

After photobashing something up, I then sketched overtop to bring the elements together. some of this may change when I begin blocking it out in 3d, but it gives me a solid starting point

The next step for me will be to tidy the sketch up into some proper line work, then create a side view. after that, I will begin blocking out my shapes in maya, before beginning my sculpt.

Spent a little time working on a sculpt. Initially just trying to block out the main muscle groups. I will likely start from scratch at some point, as anatomy isnt one of my strongest points, but its been a while since i sculpted, so just trying to get back into the feel of it to start with. Critique is always welcome!!

Thought I would mess around with how the ice miiiiight look( seeing as it is a central component of my design) Result is kinda iffy, but it shows that something is achievable. If anyone has any suggestions, would highly appreciate .

Ive got my character to a state where im ready to begin blocking in the extra meshes, such as the belt and pants- the helmet, and the ice details. I will continue to refine the character as i progress

With my character proportions mostly sorted, I spent a little time working on blocking out some of the additional meshes I need for my design. There are several more i need to work on, but this is the progress so far. They are all fairly rough, but the idea is just to get a feel for how things fit early on. once everything has been fully blocked out, I will then begin creating my high polys for each aspect of the character.

I have also decided to redesign the horns from my original concept, as these would be obstructive to movement. What i am thinking of instead trying, is a rams skull mounted on his waist. I will do a rough sculpt of this when i get the chance, and see how it fits with the rest of the design. As always- any feedback is much appreciated .

Decided I would hold off on creating the belt centerpiece, instead focusing on blocking out some of the remaining details- namely, the ice. this is just a collection of cubes at the moment, but i wanted to get an idea for how the surface could raise and fall, and how the protrusions might sit

Something I tend to forget to do is check my silhouette- and make sure i am designing characters with that in mind. If anyone has any advice or feedback regarding this, let me know

I have finished the blocking stage of my character- so next step is creating the highpoly. During this stage, I will refine the shape of the ice. The beard and moustache I intend to do as poly planes, or using a hair creator tool, then coverting to polys, however I felt it was important to put a basic representation of the size they would be during the scultping faze. I may end up using these meshes as the base to add other things too.

Spent some more time getting feedback, and playing around with the shape of the ice, to give a stronger silhouette. Also looking at the potential of having icy claws. This would help convey the idea that my character has a large amount of control over the ice, while still keeping the brutal forms and spikes.

Got the ice shaped up. will need some more work, but shall leave it as is for the moment, and work on creating the high poly for a couple of my other assets. next up i intend to tackle the helmet. I will investigate some patterns that i could use to emboss it.

Do what you think is best for your design but, as a viewer i feel the hands should just be ice hands, like what you got going on now just add the other fingers.
If you want to ^ , does he (if posed) create these ice shapes in the fists here, the look of that was pretty neat. For me i like viking helmets with horns.

Any who nothing majorly wrong otherwise just stopping by to say good work.

Cheers for the feedback!! Ill have a look at adding extra fingers. I think that will give it a powerfist (warhammer) vibe, which i like the sound of! As for the helmet, I was going for a functional/ plain aesthetic, with the only ornamentation being hand done engravings. I think horns could really add to the silhouette tho, and make him look intimidating, so what i might try, is having horns formed out of ice! Appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts

Began working on various elements of my high poly sculpt. some of these details i will come back and refine more, such as the large wounds and scars. I also tried a couple variations of horns, and liked the look the downswept style gave, althought i might need to adjust the size, seems slightly off at the moment, compared to the chunkier forms of the other ice sections

I have just been working on some of the finer details. where the large chunks of ice meet the skin, or other aspects of the character, such as the helmet- I will have a film of frost at the point they attach/intersect. This will be textured as ice latter in the pipline.
