"Elhyana and Arthur finally found the mystical fountain whose water can cure anything, from the smallest injury to the most powerful curse! But even expecting something to guard it, they did NOT expecting it to be this huge. A giant snake-like creature rises from the deep of the room, slowly looked at the new visitors and...talked! warning them to not do what they came here to do! The powers contained in these waters are not a trivial thing. Elhyana winked at Arthur, then walked closer to the creature as possible and insulted it with a look of defiance! The giant was instantly pissed! And attacked with all it's might!
Elhyana was ready for it, she deflected, and dodged all the assault but never striked back.
In the meantime Arthur was taking adventage of the creature being busy to take a huge sip in the foutain and maybe finally lift the curse...."

For this year's challenge I'm going for an entity that guards a legendary Fountain that can cure everything, from a small cut to a curse!
So, of course it's gonna be heavily guarded, but I'm not sure if it's gonna be a golem, a creature or a giant animal or something else, but what I'm sure of is that it can bend water!

More to come soon, still need to use my brain to figure things out! :smile:

Wasn't sure if I should upload these, but it's part of my researsh process so for the curious ones of you, here's some sketches I made today, trying to get the bad ideas out of my head first. The golems definitely not interesting for this, the second snake is cool, I might keep digging on that side, would make some pretty cool flow into the image
After that I kept scribbling a bit, see if it give some interesting shapes, ended up giving me a couple of new potential ideas
(Note: This is the first time I try to design a non human character, so I apologize for the mess x) )

Don't worry, even if it's a bit messy we can clearly understand your ideas.
I'd like to see an otter (they are so cute :'3), it's a very original idea and I haven't seen much of them being draw for this kind of purpose.
A snake/turtle/crocodile could be very nice too but it's the safe option although the snake could have some really nice interactions with the water and the fountain

I even thought of an Otter couple who bend water together, could visually really badass!

I think if it's really clear which one is your character and the other one is just helping on the background it could be alright.
As well your otter could make a water wife or something and cast a spell together like this (just a random idea)

A little sketch to help me figure some stuff out, here the room the protector is guarding
It's mostly for me as a guide for the next steps, it probably won't even be visible in the illustration
And I think I'm gonna go with the giant ancient snake, keeping the otter idea for something else

I'm surprised I haven't commented on your stuff but I love your previous art war pieces! The ancient snake idea I really like, having a completely sentient and intelligent animal creature is always appealing imo

I agree, it's really cool, and it always have some kind of noble attitude that makes all the charm of it, so gotta work on it's charisma to make sure it does't look silly or too angry, but it's gonna be fun!

I don't think a giant snake with beautifully adorned features (referring to your sketches) will ever look silly lol just the face might do if it's not rendered or drawn properly

Yeah you're right! Gonna work on the references gathering asap for that! Never painted snakes before, so it's gonna be fun!

Alright spend some time searching references today, starting with snakes and it reminded me how umcomfortable snakes makes me and I'm having chills at each photos XD
Then a bit for the environment and future water effect
And finally search at how other artist work on giant ancient snake
