Another update! I am trying to pace myself to make sure I am thinking about my character clearly while trying to make sure I meet deadlines XD. Here is Ashur but I was playing around with different scar/burn ideas. I mentioned in the story that he has a very noticeable scar that can make people nervous. However, when the scar could change from being like a normal scar to like a storm kind of darkish tone or shade on him? I was trying to figure things out lol! I can't decide. Enjoy the update!
something else you may also want to consider is the effect on form the scar would have - if it's running up the side of his face, since scar tissue is a tightly wound mass of fibers, it might be drawing his mouth into a snarl (further intimidating strangers!) if it affects one of his arms, it might have twisted the muscle or even the arm itself into an unexpected shape.
i love a character born with a backstory! interested in seeing where you take this guy. his hair is great and the way you imply forms with soft value is impressive.
Good evening guys! Another update! This time I was focusing on his clothing and on some of his moves and how he would use his staff-relic and his powers. I had fun with this doodles!
With the clothing, I marked the ones that I did like, I may go with either one of the two or combine them since they do look similar. I mostly did small iterations since in my head I kind of knew what I wanted but it is always a good idea to draw things out!
Charging - when there is a convenient thunderstorm he can use his staff as a conduction rod to get a bit more energy from the lightning.
Defense - Electric shield
Hand to Hand - He can focus his energy into his hands (or other parts of his body) and use them as electric pulses.
Lightning Bolt - Just the usual lightning bolt kind of attacks, depending on how much power he puts behind it can range from short range to long-range (long range takes more energy.)
Enjoy guys!
a sling - YES! that also makes sense mechanically, if his arm requires support or has limited range of motion/he only uses it for combat, he probably wouldn't want it to flop around too much outside of that.
with regards to the rest of the clothing, i'm curious about the mix of styles/the time period and setting indicated by his adornments. i don't think what you've indicated here is really a kimono so much as, well, a cloak. a feudal, pre-industrial setting would be interesting but would clash with the zippers (i think those are zippers?) on his pants.
With the sling, yes and YESSSS read my mind perfectly, that is exactly how I wanted it to come across XD!
And Oh dear, well as regards his garments, what I have written in my notes was “Theme/style” I was only inspired by different clothing in different time periods and try to I guess combinneee them together? Just simply clothing styles that I was looking for as reference to come up with something interesting. The actual “setting” takes place in a sci-fi/fantasy/ possibly steam-punkish realm where there is a heavy melting-pot of different cultures. So his clothes are a bit mix-match, almost like a walking vacation stamp (in a way) of all his travels being a thief. I apologize if it wasn’t very clear in my writing, when I write I say a bunch of things in the beginning if I am not sure about stuff yet but they may change over time XDDD
And it is actually suppose to be a kimono (or It’s a kimono inspired type of cloak) but it’s just not being worn properly, he wears it as a jacket over a jacket if that makes sense at all lol.
What? Color?! YES, finally bringing in some colors after thinking so hard about how he looks, etc XD. Anyways, I wanted to do his weapon since I thought it would be an easier to think about and bring to life! This is the ancient relic that has completely changed Ashur's life forever, now he is one with his blade and he will use it for good! (He better! XD) Enjoy this new update guys! I honestly appreciate all your thoughts and comments thus far!
Another update!
I decided to work on my composition so I can have a good grasp of what I want while doing the character design. I did several sketches but I tried to narrow it down to a few.
So when I was narrowing down the sketches it went down to this many.
Then I narrowed it down to 6.
Refined Composition Thumbnail Sketches
I'm debating with #2 and #6, currently, #6 is winning for me lol!
