Her name is Thistle, when they found her she had an inclination for these plants and also for sharp objects. Bumblebee (the fox) and Fudge (the bear) took care of her since very early on. She wasn't abandoned, but her family was a nomadic type and she got lost on one particularly long and tiresome journey. She stopped speaking then and lost faith in people.
Now, she is a protector of the forest. In the autumn when cold and stillness start to settle over everything, all the animals flock to the heart of the woods. Hunters and all sorts of people invade the forest at this time of year in search for wood and meat and fur. The last warm rays of the sun are watching the trio doing their best at defending the other creatures of the woods.

Here is the first concept for my little earth champion. She is not a big, bulky or particularly terrifying fighter, but she is truly a hero.
I hope i will find a good name for her and her friend. Names are very important.

*edited, corrected spelling.

Here are my first thumbnails for the costume.
They are a more like scribbles but i think i found a few elements i liked.
Costumes are really important, they usually reflect a lot of personality.
In my mind, she is a very practical sort of person, she needs a useful , comfortable and versatile costume.
Also, complex clothing is more difficult to draw. I want story to be the center of my drawing not so much a fancy outfit.

I really liked the last dress and here are some variations where i added the daggers and cape.
I have to think about which one i should choose.
Opinions and feedback most welcome!

Oo I really like the far right one of those. The first one is nice too!

Ooo I really like the first and last one as well! I like the 2nd one's cape, also.

9 days later

Here is a little sketch of the bear friend. Also a style experiment.
I am not sure if it'a good choice but i would like to make a not so realistic rendered illustration.

More thumbnails.
Poses and a sketch.
I think i found a name for her, Thistle or Chamomile.
Feedback welcome!

New sketches.
Looking for the mood of the character, and also for the best fitting style to work in.

Here is my moodboard.
I collected all the images that inspire me and have elements i really admire.
I don't own these images and i don't know all artists behind them.

Two thumbnail compositions for the final illustration.
Feedback welcome!

new sketches for the final.
i still have to look for a one i really like and want to work on.

I really like both sketches, but I think my eye is drawn toward #2 more!
I like the arrow idea from #1, I'm wondering if maybe adding one stuck in the tree in the foreground of #2 might be interesting? Like someone fired an arrow at her animal friends and she's not happy about it, haha.
But, just a thought! I think either of them would look really cool!

I also like the first one on the second page, and the second on the first page has a great composition and balance of values. Although the lighting could look really bomb in the first one of the second page, and you could really push the depth by having some blurry arrows on screen to imitate them being right in front of your eyes!

@veesketch Thank you!
I will definitely try the arrow idea on the second!
@nesokaiyoh Thank you!
i will try a few more lighting variations for the second sketch on the second drawing, hopefully i can bomb that too xD
In the first drawing of the second page the action pose kind of bothers me, i feel it doesn't really make sense.

Nice idea I love it !
I'm really into the first page second one, we can feel the relation between her and the animals, the values is very well done. I love the story of her protecting them but she couldn't do it without their presence, a really well balanced one.
On the second page, first one, she is jumping, for whatever reason when the bear is just hanging around, but the arrow rain idea is really cool and you should keep it :smile:

@Oceane_Roh Thank you!!
That bear just hanging around is like me, having no actual idea why she is jumping xD But i will definitely try the arrow idea on the other sketches :d

I understand what you're saying and I do agree, if she was recoiling or even showing signs of defense from those arrows it would definitely work better, the concept itself has a lot of potential though! If you are going with the one you suggested to work on lighting, I'd push the pose a little more, to me that also looks a little out of place (it's not bad but everything can always be made better lol)

I decided to try making two drawings and then submit my favorite one.
Here is a small update on some variations for one of my thumbnails.

And here is the second drawing variation tests. I feel i can't give this composition a lot more, but maybe color will do the trick xD
