  • Thank you! I finally cleaned that up. Meanwhile started 3 more ..I have a habit of taking too long to finish a piece, then I lose interest in it and just start something else. I found 8 from recently i started and abandoned, that are decent enough to not delete, but not finished. There’s also been a number of drawings I felt I “outgrew” - became better before I finished them, and it would be easier to start from scratch than fix them. Anyone else thinking that?
  • Lady Death Fanart Collectible: Part 6 Polypaint and base Hi, it’s time to share with you another part of the process to create this fanart piece. Polypaint As this is my first collectible fanart I didn’t have previous experience with polypaint so I tried my best and played a bit with it.I wanted to give a ghostly and eerie look to Lady Death, she is beautiful and deadly, but at the end of the day she is a woman that died and was reborn at hell as an avenging spirit, that’s why I gave her skin tone a bluish very cold tone.As you will see I gave myself some creative freedom to deviate from the traditional color scheme that this characater has in comics and illustrations. To add a bit of sensuality by painting some freckles on the face and the chest. The dark nature of this character was the perfect excuse to gave her a kind of goth make up, very dark shadows around the eyes, blue lips and fingernails. I know that the original character includes sexy red lips but I wanted this girl to have a sexy but at the same time creepy look, that’s why we can see some thin veins emanating from her eyes. The biggest chromatic change I did for this character is at the hair. Lady Death has a characteristic white weavy hair but in my fanart I decided to gave her a very saturated blue color. The reason behind this wasn’t only an aesthetic choice. I want that the face area strongly pulls the attention of the viewer so this area needed a stronger contrast. Another reason is that I want her to have a more modern look, as I mentioned before, I’m strongly attracted to women with goth/punk look. I gave myself half an hour or more to analyse the work of experienced sculptors that create collectibles and I discovered that the use of darker values on the skin is often applied to create a greater sense of volume and three-dimensionality. I found that areas with heavy ambient occlusion are the perfect places to paint with darker colors in order to increase the separation between different forms. Even though she has a bluish skin tone, I used a bit of warmer hues in areas that, in real life, tend to go towards red and pink, this is very obvious in the nose, cheeks, and knuckles. Thinking with a logical mind it’s completely absurd to have warmer tones on the body of a zombie like creature but I didn’t want to limit myself by using only blue tones, it looks boring and artificial. In real life these colors are created by blood vessels in areas where the skin is very thin. ** Scythe **for her weapon I applied a cool gray with some warmer variations, this color scheme is influenced by the work of H.R giger. Base I’d like to talk about the design for the base which, to be honest, I forgot to develop along with the character. My main idea with the base is to show that Lady Death inhabits a very sterile and arid land, at the end of the day she is at hell. You can see a that she walks over dirt and rocks, a sign that she’s surrounded by death and loneliness. As part of the landscape we can see some bones and skulls to reinforce the idea of lack of living creatures, yet we can see three hands that try to reach her legs. This hands represent that all creatures are subordinated to her power and seek an evil blessing with a simple touch of the princess of the damned.1- The hand with skin burns represents the souls of those who are newcomers to hell, tortured souls that suffer for the sins comitted on earth.2- The hand with greenish rotten skin and pustules is the reminder of the decay that has infected the souls of those who have been trapped and have forgotten their humanity3- Last but not least, the hand of a demon shows that even dark creatures and entities bow before her presence. The cherry on the top, at least in my vision, are the simese twins that emerge from the ground, this malevolent creatures remind us that in hell there’s only perversion and any trace of innocence is lost. Thanks for reading till this pointI’m really happy to be very close to finish this creative journey, last but not least it’s mandatory to talk about splitting the sculpture in several pieces to be printed, this will be my last entry before showing the final rendered images. See yaMay Zbrush be with you

  • Thank you @daceronine! If I remember I save in google cloud, I will have to stick a note to do it more often. Lamp is from life. Poses are from refs but I look at refs for a while and then try to do it myself and look it up if needed. Outfits and rest is from imagination Something went wrong while installing system so we will have to wipe everything again... pc works but something is wrong. We will wait till internet is done and I will save everything on cloud this time Threads came out in eu. It's been 3 days and I had more engagement than after half a year on instagram. It feels really nice I hope it stays this way A portrait of old dude. It's the same character I posted a while ago. Inspired by Bayard Wu work. At first I thought of him as a bear but I named him Fenrir and I think wolf suits him better. Eye gave me a bit of hard time but I think it is fine now. I focused on face and forgot about area below. The way I draw hair clashes with greying hair. I had the same problem while doing Lohse's white hair. Does it looks like it is greying here? I love how desaturated red looks blue there. I keep lying to myself that I will use different color scheme but It all comes down to this blue and yellowish one it is just flipped this time Have a great day!

@juliapires.jp98 Thank you so much I'm glad you like it . But I wasn't alone I've received great advices
@nesokaiyoh Thank's ! Yes you're definitely right, this could be a nice solution and justification.

I think, the 1 cropping is better (it gives enough air for creature). Maybe, it also needs little more space from sides. You can copy all your merged layers and try do deform some details (scaling, distorting, rotating, even wrapping) to find best solutions for hand)) Keep going on) your results are amazing)

Thank you so much for your comment !
I'm still not sure which kind of forma I want to use for the definitive version. Giving a lot of air is cool for the creature and the design, but a very cropped format like the 5 add a lot of power and focus. That's so hard to choose :'c

You can look from different angles (mirror image or rotate it) and in much smaller size. smth like this
and then decide )

Higher ratios work really work for cinematic scenes, and even more so when you want a sense of scale. Most of the time I use ratios like 1.85:1 or even 2.35:1 for big environmental shots. I would choose one of the longer ones personally, like 5 but it'll work better if the composition itself is suited for something like that. 5 also cuts out part of the creature, meaning it's too big to fit on screen. and this gives again, that sense of scale that something like this would need - I'd mess around with the perspective of that creature even more so if you want to go in this direction (but not necessary)

@darthmorpho Yes thanks that's a really great tips
@nesokaiyoh yeah it make a lot of sense, and I was thinking the same

I haven't picked a very specific format, just went with my eye and I think I found something well suiting (2.38:1 if you are interested). Otherwise I just kept refined my illustration, I do hope the render of the golems is going on the right direction.
I also need post prod to adjust the overall light/shadow/contrast etc

Since you added the atmospheric perspective it's looking more dynamic. His hand feels like it's coming towards me because of that. I'm scared this guy is gonna crush me

Thanks I'm glad you like it
That's the kind of feeling I'm aiming for

Really beautiful
I noticed just now that the thing on his head is a horn and someone is blowing it! Amazing!

He looks so majestic! It's gonna be epic once you're done.

Thank you
I struggled a lot on the tree ahah

Hey !
I've worked a bit today (a small hour), a bit of refinery, mostly post production.
This is kind of a final stage. But if you have any comment, criticise, advice, concern feel free to let me know.
But because I have plenty of time left (and I want to take it!). SO I'm gonna take a break from this painting to have a fresh look later in the month.
Buuuuut I love this challenge, the theme, the community etc. so I'll take the time left to create another illustration. I already have an idea for the water element, I'm going to stick to my guideline "in war fight is great, but there's plenty of other way to win it". My idea for the water is to use the "memory water" and I want to make a character who can extract this memory and see it in some floating bubbles to get informations and guide the troops (not sure if it's clear but it will be clearer sooner than later :'D)

That sounds like an interesting concept for a water warrior. This painting is very strong though. I would take a fresh look at it in a couple of days and then keep going and going on it.

For some small details that could add:

Maybe have some more roots of the trees wrapping around his arm and his neck.

Yes sure, this could be a great touch ! And I will surely come back to this painting in the future, I can already see some improvement that could be done and quite weird things that need to be fixed.

Great painting!
As you said we could comment although you are done, I'll do it:
Maybe it is just me, but I can't recognize a clear area of focus, I think the the face, the right arm and the earth symbol are compiting for attention. The face is always a focal point by default, but in this case is not strong enough as it is les contrasty and into the distace, and horn beeing contrasty despite it it is at the same distance than the face makes it a little bit inconsistent. The right hand shoulf not be a focal point by defaul, but as it is very contrasty (with the background) it calls for atention as well, and the earth symbol is the brightest and sharpest point in the image, so it calls for atention as well. So I think you should play with this factors to decide only one clear focal point and push the others to a second read.
I hope this helps.

Reminds me of those elephants in the lord of the rings movie! The sense of scale is amazing!

@j.plounevez Oh you don't have to apologize I haven't think of it in a negative way at all !
@mikean1012 ahah thank you so much ! I need to say I had completely forgot this scene. What an epic battle !
@Serfer Yes sure you can comment ! It is very welcome. And no you are right, I have noticed the problem with the horn and the head, as well I've planed to reduce a tiny bit the head and the horn which should mitigate the problem a bit. Also the transition in the depth of the right arm is not as smooth as it should be and it feel kinda strange, almost like it is not connected to the shoulder.
So my plan for this is to add more details, roots, trees whatsoever in the symbol area to have it the first focal point then drag the eye on the head and the horn.

There're also some weird values problems with the left base of the giant tree. The color balance of the first ground soldier on the right is awfully weird and I've been lazy on some details.

But as always thank you so much for your comments !

I'm really really happy to see you're going to do another idea as well, this is looking amazing and I'm pleased of the hard work and time you've put into not only this work but commenting and seeing everyone else's work (yea I see you)
I'm excited to see more cool ideas from you xD

Yeaah thank you so much !
Y I see you too :stuck_out_tongue: but I don't know this contest is amazing, I had no expectation coming around here. Just a cool theme. But well everyone was so kind, helpful and supportive.. th ambiance is just amazing

Just made some sketches for my second idea, I really want it as an over watcher who can guide others and make strategical decisions (yeah I miss that part for the moment). I made other random sketches but went really fast on the jellyfish theme and add an humanoid part. This surely will not be the final design but it's a way I could see myself going on

So for some reason, I think the most interesting thing about your work is the horn on top of the big guy's head, and it's a cool element to tell the story, if you can put a little guy on its back and try to blow it, and other soldiers being awakened or march forward ... stuff like that

In terms of color and light, I think the sunlight, the light from the emblem are competing with each other, I might make the foliage on the bake more denser and kind of covering up the emblem so in the middle you can have a green-blueish tone and on the side, you can have a red warm sunset tone. keep up the good work :+1:

Yes thank you so much !
I'll take this in consideration when I'm going back to this piece

Thank you so much ! I hope I'll have the time to finish the second one too

Wow so much work here ! good job ! I really like the second idea too !
I think the very last one is better in termof direction / readability.

Either one of these work but damn does it not look good! Really great piece and seeing your development on it has been such an amazing thing (I might've said this already before but it has been fun to watch lol)

@maxtronaute thank you so much ! I'm probably going to stay on the second one buuut yeah I'm not totally sell actually ahaha
@nesokaiyoh Thank you so much ! Your support along the way as been incredible too

Yeah I don't want them to drag any kind of attention, but I could polish them a bit

How did I miss your thing!?! It's epic!! That's some big dude!
