so i changed composition a bit and worked on my forms. no details yet - just form sculpting

looked at the image with the fresh eyes and realized i dont like value structure at all - dragon looks flat , no sense of scale, weird leg position. trying to fix all of that

@tianlei
Yooo amazing work with thumbnails, colors and use of brushes! I like every last bit of it, and don't know what else I can say... OH! Since its war of elements, I think there is not enough emphasis on your element, perhaps you should add some fire somewhere in there!
Love confidence in your progression, wish I would have it!
Keep up the good work!

hey, man, thanks for your comment, and yes you are 100% right - my element needs to be shown. I have an idea in mind, but i cant paint it right now as i want to be sure my forms and overall shape designs are satisfying me. cheers!

@tianlei
YOOO What about making dragon itself on fire, like of fire elemnt?! Not just breathing it, but eminating fire from inside it body from head, inbetween scales? could be cool! :smiley:

yeah basically i do want to make a cracks and the lava oozing through them, but it needs to be a scene of dragon's death, so the fire and lava would be blood like consistency

Rules say your character should be either attacking or defending. Don't forget we have to incorporate the element logos as well.

true, as i said earlier

the idea is - dragon protecting his friend from deadly attack, blocking damage with his huge body. its a story of self-sacrifice for a loved one.
and the logo should be there:)

Sorry, I missed you said that.
It's just that it doesn't look like a protective pose at the moment. I know it's still in early stages, but maybe have the wings held more around the human character?

thanks for pointing it out, i'll try to make the pose unambiguous! cheers!

I suppose it depends what the attack that's being defended against is. If it's a hail of arrows that guy's Swiss cheese - too many gaps for something to get through.

What if you swapped the guy to the other side of the dragon's head, so he's more underneath, like the bottom photo?

so i keep building up my image and came up with this variant

but it looks too cartoony for my taste, and i went too far from initial mood and color so i decided to go back and try color comp i choose before:

I love this.. the composition is really strong

thank you, man, ill work hard to continue strong:)

a little bit of progress: still working on forms and color

wonderful! But at first I didn´t understand that he is protecting her, now I do, and now I think it´s even more awesome :smiley:

Really cool composition and colours !
It would be nice to see some fire sparkles (or something like that) next wings, maybe ?
It also could bright the most darkest places of your artwork (why not in the grass as well, just a little ?).

Good luck !

How you capture light is gorgeous :heart:
