I didn't know what element I wanted to go with to go with, so I did some lists for each elements. Using the element as a starting point, I came up with words that were related (or not so related) to it. I ended up with an idea for each. A penguin throwing beach balls, a demon racoon, a dude with a scorpion armore and some weird thing with long legs.

I liked the penguin as I thouhght he was funny, so I thought I'd go with him.

However, I also liked the dude with scorpion armor and after not thinking about it for a while I just figure I could just make a crazy penguin with a crab armor. Or maybe I can keep the scorpion armor. We'll see.

Thanks @Malcom. I'll try to finish my character this time, unlike last year.

So I gathered some refs and made some really rough sketches.

Overall I want something fun, maybe even a bit silly, but still with a bit of coolness to it. I'm thinking of giving him just one huge robot crab claw from which he could maybe shoot water jets. Then maybe he could have some more weapons and accessories on him (like exploding sea urchins) And also he needs a cool haircut, so I did some rough sketches of that too.

@serovero Thanks! That's where I think I'm gonna go with it. Some sort of cannon thing in the the crab claw.

I'm starting with a character sheet, just to figure out most things before I start the illustration. I'm still far from done (I'm just so slow ) , but I figure I should post it anyway to keep an update on my progress.

He is! I just thought it was funny to do him that way

He'll probably look like this, although I might change the colors as I'm not sure how I feel with the yellow. Now I need to work the crab arm and the other accessories he'll be carrying.

So I've been trying to work on the crab-cannon arm, but it's definitely a struggle as I'm not that good with mechanical things. I tried to incorporate some of the water guns ideas I have in my reference board, but it's hard

That's the sketch I have so far. He's gonna have a big water tank on his back which connects to the arm, and then there's smaller water reservoirs on the claw itself. At least that's what I have in mind.
