  • Thank you! I finally cleaned that up. Meanwhile started 3 more ..I have a habit of taking too long to finish a piece, then I lose interest in it and just start something else. I found 8 from recently i started and abandoned, that are decent enough to not delete, but not finished. There’s also been a number of drawings I felt I “outgrew” - became better before I finished them, and it would be easier to start from scratch than fix them. Anyone else thinking that?

  • Lady Death Fanart Collectible: Part 6 Polypaint and base Hi, it’s time to share with you another part of the process to create this fanart piece. Polypaint As this is my first collectible fanart I didn’t have previous experience with polypaint so I tried my best and played a bit with it.I wanted to give a ghostly and eerie look to Lady Death, she is beautiful and deadly, but at the end of the day she is a woman that died and was reborn at hell as an avenging spirit, that’s why I gave her skin tone a bluish very cold tone.As you will see I gave myself some creative freedom to deviate from the traditional color scheme that this characater has in comics and illustrations.To add a bit of sensuality by painting some freckles on the face and the chest. The dark nature of this character was the perfect excuse to gave her a kind of goth make up, very dark shadows around the eyes, blue lips and fingernails. I know that the original character includes sexy red lips but I wanted this girl to have a sexy but at the same time creepy look, that’s why we can see some thin veins emanating from her eyes. The biggest chromatic change I did for this character is at the hair. Lady Death has a characteristic white weavy hair but in my fanart I decided to gave her a very saturated blue color.The reason behind this wasn’t only an aesthetic choice. I want that the face area strongly pulls the attention of the viewer so this area needed a stronger contrast. Another reason is that I want her to have a more modern look, as I mentioned before, I’m strongly attracted to women with goth/punk look. I gave myself half an hour or more to analyse the work of experienced sculptors that create collectibles and I discovered that the use of darker values on the skin is often applied to create a greater sense of volume and three-dimensionality. I found that areas with heavy ambient occlusion are the perfect places to paint with darker colors in order to increase the separation between different forms. Even though she has a bluish skin tone, I used a bit of warmer hues in areas that, in real life, tend to go towards red and pink, this is very obvious in the nose, cheeks, and knuckles. Thinking with a logical mind it’s completely absurd to have warmer tones on the body of a zombie like creature but I didn’t want to limit myself by using only blue tones, it looks boring and artificial. In real life these colors are created by blood vessels in areas where the skin is very thin. ** Scythe **for her weapon I applied a cool gray with some warmer variations, this color scheme is influenced by the work of H.R giger. Base I’d like to talk about the design for the base which, to be honest, I forgot to develop along with the character.My main idea with the base is to show that Lady Death inhabits a very sterile and arid land, at the end of the day she is at hell.You can see a that she walks over dirt and rocks, a sign that she’s surrounded by death and loneliness. As part of the landscape we can see some bones and skulls to reinforce the idea of lack of living creatures, yet we can see three hands that try to reach her legs.This hands represent that all creatures are subordinated to her power and seek an evil blessing with a simple touch of the princess of the damned.1- The hand with skin burns represents the souls of those who are newcomers to hell, tortured souls that suffer for the sins comitted on earth.2- The hand with greenish rotten skin and pustules is the reminder of the decay that has infected the souls of those who have been trapped and have forgotten their humanity3- Last but not least, the hand of a demon shows that even dark creatures and entities bow before her presence. The cherry on the top, at least in my vision, are the simese twins that emerge from the ground, this malevolent creatures remind us that in hell there’s only perversion and any trace of innocence is lost. It feels really nice I hope it stays this way A portrait of old dude. It's the same character I posted a while ago. Inspired by Bayard Wu work. At first I thought of him as a bear but I named him Fenrir and I think wolf suits him better. Eye gave me a bit of hard time but I think it is fine now. I focused on face and forgot about area below. The way I draw hair clashes with greying hair. I had the same problem while doing Lohse's white hair. Does it looks like it is greying here? I love how desaturated red looks blue there. I keep lying to myself that I will use different color scheme but It all comes down to this blue and yellowish one it is just flipped this time Have a great day!

@morecado Cheers , yeah can't have lightning ideas without one HEAVY METAL looking dude ahah.

From the idea phase I picked elements I liked and came up with these 3 sketch designs. Really got drawn to the idea of heavy modification , as attaching a conductor for them to channel the lighting and bend to their will. Also really liked the idea of a test subject . So with "A" you have the stages of the experiment , Right arm is the set up and the left arm is the result.

Just imagine how many creative choices you can do with that! Why stop at 1 pair of hands, when you have electricity at you command? Make whole swarm of hands, of electricity! :smiley:
But yeah, conceptually A is way more interesting, seeing process of transforming living matter into pure energy is pretty cool! (multiple forms/stages/progressions? to the transformation)

And I simply adore your dynamic poses and expressions! 2 of those Im not particularry good at, and I am near the stage where I really need to start thinking about such stuff! (please check out my post!)

I love them! They are very charming... I especially like the beartrap element on D's head. Is that for dealing with things flying at their head? Is their head especially important to protect? It's neat visually.

The cage-arms of A and C are also great from a technical standpoint vs the plasma claws in B D and E: Electricity that can retain a solid form stretches suspension of belief a bit far IMO.

The brush-discharge hand of F is visually unique and helps them break out of the humanoid mold, also hammers home the heavy modification theme. Excited to see what you create!

@aleck5andrs Thank you , I still have a way to go with poses. A large part of this will be the final illustration which is defiantly gonna be a tough one in trying to show abilities and such. Will continue to watch your progress , but I don't know Water Clan and lighting clan are enemies :stuck_out_tongue:

@nantianmu Thank you. Yeah I really liked the tube design and that has got the most popular response so far. With the bear trap design I wanted to be a sorta they use this as a primitive armour to protect the head. Something they found while in the wild, as they tend to avoid populated areas.

So using collective feedback I took elements and tried to narrow the design down, and you can see that below. ( also forgot that I needed that symbol in the design so I flexed sealed that shizzz. fits not to bad) After talking with friends and thinking it over I came to the design you see in the colour schemes. Now the bloody colour scheme.
Let me know which colour scheme you like .

I think I prefer the 4 and 5 color scheme, but I do like the idea of having an unusual skin color. Maybe 2 is also nice. It's hard to choose.

Would it be possible to get some more patchwork or mottled skin color schemes? It is a little strange that only their arm is colored differently, when their concept is as Frankenstein's cobbled-together monster.

Of the color schemes you have, I like 3 and 6 best. I can't help but think of Tracer Overwatch when I look at 5, I'm sorry.

Hehe, I know, but hey Lightning Clan is the only clan that beats Water Clan, so please have some mercy over me, and show me the ways of the force! :stuck_out_tongue:
About color schemes: I feel like superficial lightning colors (like pink or purple) won't have as much of a visual power, as blue or yellow! (but oh well, what do I know about colors xD), I feel like bright RED lightning is something you should definetly at least try and experiment with!
About colors of his clothes, everything pales in comparassent with 5, cause bright yellow/ orange indicates electrical insulating suits, at least for me, so it would make sense and looks better than others, in my opinion. 1 looks like asylum undone straight jacket and 3,4,6 looks cool (cause its black).
About skin colors, perahps you should play with it in sense that his other hand (or other body parts) is drasticly scarred by lightning/electricity current, so skin on it would be burned/scarred into bright pink/red hues (2), and then dialate into normal skin color like (5) (also check out photos of people who are scarred by lightning, the scars have cool pattern to them on the skin, might get some ideas!)

So this is the final design I'm going with, thank you all for the advice.

So I went with a colour palette that I felt would allow for the arm to be the focus , and also give me the least amount of trouble with the final illustration. I really did like the idea of different colour skin and the orange pants but felt it strayed too far from the humanity struggle/ test subject vibe. Look at them toes BRUH!!

Thank all, I'm happy you like his look.

Now thumbnails. I have some of the messiest thumbnails I ever seen, heavens help me.

So since we got to show them attacking or defending , I want to show them fighting the other elements or defending themselves . Problem I've found is lighting is a chaotic element, it is power it is attack. You aint never heard people say "man Nice cool breeze of lighting hit me today "

So A B D they are attacking compositions. Going for power and destruction taking out all in its path leaving an after math of chaos, with C it's different. How do I show lighting ( with my character ) in a defensive state. So I fought what if they are surrounded by enemies and you want these people away from you but all you know is attack. Well you push someone away so Im thinking of a shock wave or bubble of lighting pushing them away.

I feel C would have the greatest story potential or emotion. But damn I do love me my action and so A really sticks out to me but hides a lot of the characters main body. B Is the most true to press the attack , and your results of the attack around you.

I need to think which to go for this is tough, Let me know your thoughts? which you like.

Really interesting and dynamic character and flow even on a simple standing pose.

As for thumbnails...not easy to say.
Nobody liked the last one, but it could be very cool too (if it is extended a little on the left).
But maybe his legs look too stiffs ? (or maybe he's surrounded by trees, branches or in the sea ?)

Anyways, I'm sure you could figure out the best one you could do.

I'm really drawn to A and C! :grin: A is really dynamic and leads the eye, and like you said I can see neat story potential for C. I'm wondering if maybe a couple more thumbnails, maybe at a different camera angle, could really get the most out of the story for C since it feels a little bit stiff right now. Maybe even just tilting it a bit and putting it on an angle for drama?

They're all really solid though and I think no matter what one you choose will be great!
