Hi, this is my first time entering an art war contest so far.

I sketched these concepts today, I'm heading for a thunder mermaid. I may still iterate them.

Wow, looks really amazing so far!
Personally I like the one in the middle the most it looks a little more crazy, aggressive and zappy than the others. Though I don't know what kind of personallty you are going for so the others are great options too.

Thank you griasnoggal! Yes I was aiming for the middle one, she would be a lightning casting mermaid. I sketched some values today and tried some colors too

I am not used to doing illustration so this is a nice way to practice composition and color a little more. I will try to finish it today or tomorrow and if in the meantime I happen to dislike it I'll try some new ideas.

Looks great so far!
One thing that might be unfavorable is the light you put behind her tail. It pulls you a little away from the face of the character, but other than that it's really amazing!

Thanks griasnoggal! Yeah I figured it out, I tried to drag the attention more towards her face. I have a hard time cleaning my work I think I may not have to right method, I don't know how to feel about this one. I may either keep going on it or try a new one.

Wow, it looks way better now. The attention is deffenitely more directed towards her face and the red on the right proviedes a really nice contrast!
