Have you ever been tempted to paint something terrible?

I like where the idea is going, and the faces really give it a sense of eeriness and creep factor. It wasn't clear to me on the element though when seeing just the images, I wouldn't have been able to guess beside the fact you wrote it down. I would suggest to incorporate it more, and the b/w thumbnail you have I actually thought it was lightning. Maybe fire coming from the throat of these creatures? Would make for some epic lighting

This is final art sketch (Maybe not the last).

@nesokaiyoh thank you for your comment!
Moving to the final version of the scene. Added a little tone, without light and shadow. By the way, swords are the souls of warriors. During life, rage consumed their hearts. Reapers help dead warriors move into the afterlife.

I'm interested as to why you took a different approach to it, your other idea was amazing! The new ones are awesome too, a lot more up close and personal and I think it works well. The idea of the lightning connecting with the sword definitely gives it an eerie feeling

The final.
When my father traveled the world. He came across a settlement in the steppe. All its inhabitants were dead, they became victims of invaders from the east. Refusing to become slaves, they accepted a proud death with weapons in their hands. The wild tribe did not worship spirits or gods. The only thing they honored was steel, and the forge became their temple. Father was fascinated by these people. Gathering all the weapons that lay on the ground, God forged him into a single monolith. When the steel cooled, he breathed life into it. So I was born.
I was ordered to search for the fallen warriors and transfer them to the afterlife. These warriors found eternal peace in my scabbard.
