Ethereal Earth Summoner

As I promise in the previous Artwar interview, I'm back!
A lot of life-changing happening this month so this round I'll approach more of a 'my exploration' kinda thing rather than competitive. I'm here mainly to enjoy the character design stage!

First set of sketches. I have a body shape that I want to work with and list some materials that I'm going to use. I'm aiming for chinese-inspired aesthetics. This character is compose of earth element so I'm going to build him up part by part with what I have.

He's an earth summoner, so that's why the tall but well-build body. He's the main source that pulls together the spirits of the fallen, sunken deep in the earth.

His name is not final, it's just not my priority right now

Very interesting design I'm curious to see more! Wtih all the different textures and colors you planned it's gonna be so cool!

Ooh really good start ! I love the design, although I feel more of an Egyptian inspiration.

So I assign the materials from how I imagine. I can start thinking how I want to carve the shapes for each part and put any additional armor or cloth on top where it would fit the aesthetics.

When I have time I really want to try Egyptian later, it'll turn out so cool and will definitely work but I decide to stick with the original brief for now and treat it as a problem-solving challenge.

The colors are there, now I'll see how the aesthetic goes after I play around a little more.

Been away last week, have some spare time to carve him out last night.
Should have enough information to begin the illustration now!

Currently have some second thoughts if I'll actually submit for this contest though, I can always carry out the rest on my own haha. Just a thought.

This is probably my final WIP within the time range of the contest. I'll to continue this on my own as explained in my first comment. I had fun exploring the design process and that pretty much fulfills my purpose here! Thank you guys, my finished version will be later posted in my artstation.

Sad you won't be able to finish in time, but glad you'll still work on this afterwards, it's amazing and I can't wait to see it!!
