The Stormborne is an undead lightning champion, whose decaying form was given life once again after being struck by a bolt of lightning. The shattered remnants of its armor float around it like wings, shackled through lightning tendrils that the Stormborne can form from its body.

Hey all! Here's my initial, messy exploration sketch that led me to this concept. I wanted to make a character that was given life through lightning, Frankenstein-style, and thought it would be interesting to explore an undead knight or warrior who had that lightning running through his veins. The armor design and styling is pretty generic here so I'll be exploring that much more in the coming days.

cool design... friendly advice... i like the idea of him getting fueled by lightning but perhaps he could be shown shooting lightning as well?

Just be careful not to leave it too long, there's only a little over a week left and that'll go by really quickly. Like the sketch so far though, looks awesome

I like the silhouette! I agree withe wrangman, too. It would be cool to see either attacking or defending with lightning somehow. Also, I really like your part about "lighting running through his veins," are you going to make them glow through his armor?

@jason7005 Thanks man! Will definitely be going with a more active, attacking pose for the final illustration. Worked a bit more on refining the design and concept over the past couple of days and decided to show the "lightning running through his veins" aspect more by exposing the inside of his armor (perhaps the lightning that gave birth to him broke the front of his chestplate). I decided to make him skeletal on the inside to sell the undead aspect more, and have lightning course around his bones. In the final illustration I'll probably try to have a bit of glow coming through seams in his armor to sell it more too!

I also thought it'd be cool if his shattered armor was still "connected" to him through lightning tendrils coming from his body. Wanted to make his silhouette a little more imposing by giving him the impression of having "wings" without literally giving him wings.

That's looking AWESOME! It looks like the floating armor parts could be projectile weapons, too. Like taser javelins -----

Tried to incorporate it a bit into my final illustration but I think to sell it more I'd have to change the posing and camera angle a bit. Since there's only a few days left they'll just be floating for now

Final! Had a lot of fun painting all this lightning. Not super satisfied with the background and wish I could have come up with a more inventive pose but ahh well. Also updated my first post for the submission!
