The spear with the water-shaft is really cool! Although it'll probably be a challenge to pull off in the illustration.

last year I was doing a bunch of experimenting with my style so now I'm challenging myself to draw things I normally dont (aka backgrounds lol)

I know the background looks VERY meh but I promise, Im going to work on it with shading/detailing lol

Tomorrow I'll work extensively on the background ^.^

Here's the finished product
I added detail to the background and added some white highlights to the water in the kyoketsu-shoge (the weapon she's wielding). I'm really happy with how she turned out and I'm slowly building the world she lives in.

Nice design, the weapon and the veil look really great !
I'm not sure if you are asking for c/c but. If I can, I'd say you should push the background a bit further. You could add some variations in the plants instead of just using a brush. And the reflection in the water could use a bit of differentiation from the actual trees.
But good one so far !

I have a nice friend who is like you. She is incredible at drawing line art and character and never do background.
But well she is improving a lot. The better way to become better at environements is to do simple studies of scenery or landscape whitout any character.

@Oceane_Roh haha last year i was pushing myself with trying to find/improve my art style. this year I want to push myself to do backgrounds ^.^
@nesokaiyoh SQUEEEEE thanks so much :3 I was so surprised when I saw that you liked my work ;~; (im a fan from dA lol). backgrounds are still a little bit frightening but i'm going to try and push myself to improve on them this year ^.^

Taking a break from working on the entry but I'm still drawing the same character ^.^
I digitalized the sketch and here's the base colors! The shell emblem in the background will be colored in once all the shading is done so I can figure out which colors would work best in the composition.
Anyway I hope you like it

Good work so far! Is this your final painting for the contest or is this just a concept? I like her clothing but if that is the case, you should probably show more of her (and also either attacking/defending as per the brief of the project)

thanks this is more of a side illustration. I mostly made it because its in the same style as another character portrait in this character's world (aka my avatar picture lol). So i wanted to make a series of portraits for the characters ^.^

That's fair enough, and a good idea to add to your portfolio. Just be aware of time constraints when you come to do the final piece though!

Yes, I've been working on some other stuff to help me work out my ideas. I'm the kind of person where I work on multiple things at once ^.^ I also stress over deadlines lol
