B2 is a little bit out of balance, for my feelings. Maybe someone else would prefer that I don't know xD

B2 is confusing, he seems to be attacking the ground for some reason?
Could you not do a version of c3 with him facing us? Maybe looking over his shoulder at the people behind him?

@prinzmoana, @Looris, @moirae thanks for the input! B2 is out of balance, the idea with that pose was that he was recovering after being knocked back from an enemy blow. I can see now this idea will be difficult to convey on a single frame. A1 is looking like the favourite. @moirae keeping the pose and changing the angle so he’s facing us is probably the way to go. I’ll give it a go, although I went ahead and started putting some time in A1 already.

So here goes, finally started! I’m going for a golden morning hour lighting scheme and a mountainy dryish greeklike terrain. Will add some buildings, vegetation and enemies in the background. I’ll post my environment mood board at some point. Found that the design wasn’t holding up this close to the camera so I added bits and bobs on the armour. I’ll have to update the character sheet. Overall happy to have started

I'm not keen on how the spear just fits into the frame, grazing the edges. It seems like you're letting the size of the image dictate your composition rather than the other way around. Don't be scared to adjust the canvas to allow for the spear, or just let it poke out of frame like in the original sketch.

Really enjoying this ancient Greek / Tron mash up, the shield is a great design.
Is the shield supposed to be a flat design or a relief? it looks like its been drawn to be flat by the forms but the values of the lighting make it look more 3d.

@moirae the spear does look very stupid and I’ve worked on it since the post. Initially I drew it curvy to make it look like distortion from a wide angle lens. Instead of that, it made it look floppy, cartoony and out of place. I appreciate the feedback, I can miss some obvious stuff when I’m far into a painting

@br00dley thanks The shield is supposed to be 3D. Not like a full goat head but about 25cm from ears to snout. Hopefully it will look like it by the end!

I’ve been working on the spear, lighting and adding background elements. Not sure if I want to keep the spaceship. Any ideas are wellcome Once I figure these things out it’s just going to be a matter of rendering and making things bling!

I like the spaceship and the shield they go well together. There is a nice mix of genres in this piece and for me that interesting

Loving the composition and the design, getting an Overwatch kind of vibe, wich in my book is totally awsome =) Keep up the work!

@drdarum thanks mate @Lainon thanks so much! Overwatch was a big inspiration for the design. Basically I was thinking what would a Greek Overwatch character look like. For the composition I was looking a lot at LOL splash art, with the super exaggerated camera angles and dynamic poses.

I think the shield could be a little more high-tech to tie in with the ship. Some mechanical parts in armor joints too maybe?

It’s been a while! I got some time to work on this and feel like I’m most of the way there. Trying to make some final decisions before I flatten it to apply some overall effects. @WeirdOwl added this panelling on the shield to make it more mechanical. I’m not sure they do the job, maybe I’ll go for some lights too.

Hey this is looking great especially the face!
Only suggestion I have is perhaps adding some more lighting from the glow of the top spear tip onto the shaft.

I like where this is going! I wouldn't do lights, as they may conflict with your focal point, but maybe add some thicker mechanical bits at the junction between the outer frame and horns?
Very nice movement and perspective.
