I liked the moon silhouette from the older posts and brought it back in and moved the spear around so the flag doesn't get lost in the moon. Let me know what you think if you have a spare moment but it's likely to move around a bit more.

@moirae your right about the character sheet, I had a similar though a few hours after posting. The horse is part of the legend so I feel it should be part of the illustration but I could move the image around to focus on the figure more. I do like Y a lot but I think I might put a bit of time into W and see how I feel after I've moved it about a bit. Personally I prefer the design stage over the illustration but I like to see how much progress I've made each year, probably good to test those rendering skills every so often as well.

Thanks for the reference its amazing! the artist has some great work.

So my opinion is: this is not a bad composition, but it could be made stronger in you use environment to emphasize the character more. For example, there could be clouds pointing back to the character silhouette, there could be tree silhouettes framing the shot just right. I feel like you need a couple more value levels to have a clearer picture of the item dependencies.

Added some leading elements to guide the viewer to the character, played around a bit with the shapes tried to add some more medium shapes to break up the big shapes. Going to start painitng this week and leanign towards B so far.

Any thoughts or feedback is always welcome.

B looks great! It's very dynamic, but it will be quite hard to handle all of the foreshortening. Personally I like A a lot. It's a bit more classical , but if you move the figure and the horizon line a bit higher, it would create this nice effect of "Ha! ha! I am superior!".

Also make sure that the viewer is looking at the rider and horse from the same angle. On the "A" picture, we can see the character from below, but the horse looks as if we look at it from the side or straight on.

I think both of these compositions are really strong. And both are good candidates for an awesome splash art. A has a good hero shot, B has good movement. If you go with A, I recommend to add a small creature or extra pebbles in the bottom right corner for balance.
If you go with B, break of the continuous line of clouds (they seem too symmetrical now).

I really like both compositions a lot. That being said, I find B fits more with the topic as he's clearly charging into battle, but that could be played even further.
One way of doing it is to make the horse's head and most forward leg larger to exaggerate the foreshortening, giving a more dramatic shot. The other thing I'd add is a minor enemy on the left, just to show he's about this close to land a hit.

I'm looking forward to see where you take this next!

Looks dynamic! What if you flipped the black shuck dog the other way, so it was leaning to the right? It would lead the eye back to the main character and match the fish bowl look you're going for (ie: like the trees)
