An ancient mech powered by the Aesir, constucted to keep the Jötuun plague from the rest of the world

Planning on a mech with mixed styles from fantasy, steam punk and sci fi. I'm kinda stressed out by looking at so many mindblowing entries that's already up but I'll give it my best shot =)

First sketch for the mech. I decided kinda quickly what route I wanted to take. I want to use lots organic materials such as wood, cloth and leather, kinda dumb when it will have a burning furnace inside... But hey, I guess anything goes with magic

Hello! I am a big fan of the whole "ancient technology" kind of vibe. I like your first draft! If you are open to some ideas I´d say that you should still keep in mind basic functionality in your mech, such as joint movement. Maybe it is a bit early in your design process, but when you flesh it out I´d encourage you to let this Aesir powerhouse be able to move properly! I mainly refer to your elbows and knees.
Also, don´t be afraid to experiment with the silhouette a bit more! If your intention is making him look like a juggernaut kind of character the shoulders are a good touch and the comparison with the smaller head, but spikes and horns (which I think kinda goes nicely together with the whole nordic aesthethic) could sell off pretty well with the idea of a fighter/bruiser kind of character. Depending on how much you wanna incorporate the idea of steampunk tech, I´d see how I could find excuses for all of this! Maybe the horns are missiles driven by aether or some runic energy. Maybe the core of the machine that links it with the Aesir is a relic or something. Just throwing some ideas around! Magic is a nice and classic way to justify a design, but maybe you can explore more ways of justifying your design visually

This is how far I've come up to now, needs ton of work. It's super early in my process. I'm still planning to add lots of design elements. I'm rather happy with the lauyout of thing as of now. Thinking about adding more enemies thats moving towards my big dude. I added some placeholding dudes around here and there. I'm definitely gonna add some Norwegian warriors cheering for their champion. If they are gonna join in and have a go on other giants, I just have to see if I got the time.

This is such a blast to make and I can't wait to get further down the road of my process, sooooo much left i have and want to do.

I'm definitely gonna add more "machine like" elements like joints and stuff, that will be added along the way. I've started of on my illustration and will continue adding more stuff along the way. I'm thinking of having big ass chains that move the joints almost like pullieys with rope on a ship kind of way. I've gone with a sleeker look with gems now but I'm not sure about those. Might go with spikes and viking vibe shields or something instead. Magic runes will go on for sure, I dont know in what way yet tho... So many ideas!! Just have to try them out =)

Holy crap I totally forgot to write about what country I'm representing... Either way, I'm going for my beloved neighbours Norway. Was thinking of having my enemy as some kind of troll like in the movie Trollhunter but decided on giants instead. Both fits the norse mythology well but I just like the name better.
Added a famous mountain from Norway aswell, anyone that knows wich one? =)

Man this is already looking freaking epic, I like this gigantic scale.
Also the composition is very easy to read and has a lot of potential, showing a kind of environmental storytelling, so I'm pretty curious 😄

Small update, have changed some of the armor pieces, need to fix lots of things tho. I'm currently looking into translations to old norse and rune writings. I'm gona carve them here and there, maybe make some magic pendants with glowing runes.

Still working on the design on both giants, the mech and the dead guy. My wife told me an important thing: "the head looks sad, I feel sorry for him, make him ugly and scary"
So I did, much more satisfied with this approach.
It felt like I had tons of time in the beginning of this war but now it's kinda running away from me. Having a 2 year old and a fulltime job is kinda time consuming XD I will make it tho, I just have to finish the design, render out the values, color, shade, highlight and detail the whole thing, easy....
