Mefar is Ukrainian farmer, who, like his fellow villagers, is a victim of seerfdom. Despite all difficulties of his life, Mefar loves his country, his land and traditions. One day on traditional Ivana Kupala night he manages to find rare fern blossom, which is believed to grant his bearer great might and power of understanding and controlling animals. With the help of the blossom Mefar rebels to overthrow his overlord and grant his village freedom.
