So I made a bit of research (not much for me but to show you guys my thoughts )
Here are some examples of Ukrainian warriors in our history, from X-th century to our days:

In 99% of cases we chose a Cosack warrior (1600s-1700s) as an warrior example of Ukraine, but for me it's such a cliché... So I decided to choose "a blind spot" in history and pick a warrior from XIV century, (between well known Old Kyivan Rus" times and well known Cossack Rebel period) as it's very interesting for me. And it will be kind of educational and informative about that "forgotten noble times")

Here is my historical references for the character:

It was pretty difficult to decide finally what I actually want to capture and what time period and theme to choose. Glad I did it)

So there are national colours and a coat of arms (that have ancient roots by the way). I will try to incorporate not just colours but also a trident shape elements into my design as well

Aaaand just for fun and more epic look I decided to mix this stuff with some hardcore diselpunk elements with a modern twist to it. I hope I will create something pretty cool from those ingredients

I make first attempt here to create something iconic. I decided to move from historically accurate and a bit boring costume of that period to a bit more exiting shapes.

I like your approach to stylizing the historical costumes. Hard to decide which one I like more. Definitely like the asymmetrical shape of the first one and the menacing feel of the third one.

I also like the weapon, a very unique looking design there
