Hey! I was at a Death Lich for a moment, but I reconsidered and chose a Forest Guardian from the lands of Sweden. Something fun, stylized and challenging, that also has a message.

I always wanted to create an ancient forest creature that live by the roots and the land, while being connected to it. Since I really respect nature and usually fall for its beauty, I felt like this creature is the one I would slowly would like to explore and finish for the competition. It is a really cool idea that I think can become really nice.

My name is Kris Levin and Im a concept art student from Sweden, Scandinavia. Our land is well known for its care for thr environment and its people connection to the nature. You know that little girl Gretha. I felt, that creating a creature like that would teach me alot of things, giving me the right fuel to burn while creating it and it could look really epic while also presenting a message which I think is right. I cant wait to start on it, and I hope it will turn out as I see it in my head.

I gathered a few photos, for reference, which is great. I love doing that, and I usually look for subtle things, like colors, shapes, ideas and also presentation. For this forest creature I decided to go with something original and yet familiar and I see this project as a great challenge. Thanks for stopping by and I wish everyone a great day.

Im just quickly thinking to get a visual sense of him by drawing. I got to the point where he is more humanized, in visual features. I will blend that in into the current sculpt, just to create a more open personality. I also have figured out the final image and environment, which I personally feel is really, really cool as it embodies the entire idea into it. It will be defending for sure, but it will be very emotional in the final image in the sense of movement and gesture, tensed and posed in a way that will show his personality and demonear. Love is at the forefront of the final image and that I think is my compass for the entire project. What do you think?

Next step is to start working on his arms, color look development, moss shader and more refining of his bust.

Im still deciding on his look. Also whether it should be stylized or super realistic. I mean, stylized is something I wanted to do, but realistic look could also be really cool. What do you think?

What you got so far looks pretty good but I would say explore with stylized, sort of reminding me of skull kid from zelda and groot when it's looking realistic like that so you might want to play around with shaping the head differently, but so far love the details and concept of how u want to embody it with full on nature.

thanks man! Yep, Im going stylized with this one. I already have another look, several people told me straight up it was to similiar to Groot and some other characters. Thanks for that. Wasnt thinking about it.

Yes, he will be very close to nature for sure......you´ll see.

I had a few comments about the face. It looked way to much like Groot, and I thought, I have to change it. This is more inline now with what I wanted for him. He looks more wild, crazy, inspired by lions, monkeys, wolves. I think this one works way better and that´s what I want to go with. What do you think?

This is looking way better, i see how the face is inspired from the animals listed however i think it should be pushed for a more floral side rather than embodying characteristics from animals (unless you're aiming for that fierce nature then ignore this), a couple ideas could be to enlargen the eyes and remove the mouth and nose to add to a blank and isolated expression where you could engrave or add other nature embodying details. Love the added branched hair, and a suggestion for that is to make it like a miniture forest where there could be miniture life form(s) or anything else inspired from Sweden. Anyways this idea has a lot of potential so keep it up .

thats really nice to hear. Thank you warper. Its nice to read your message. Great ideas. I want to go for a creature that was here before we came here. It only shows itself to us at certain events. Yeah, I know some small troll children, would be cool. Oh, and I will be trying creating a root insert brush in Zbrush. Working on the basemesh and some solutions. Im looking for the look, and Im getting it down. There are so many ideas and techniques that rush through my mind, and there is really alot to do. Here are some very simple dumps, so you can get a compass on where it is heading. Next I will be working on his look, and then starting adding, ideas, perhaps thinking of a cinematic final image, you never know. Have a good night guys:)

A little turntable for figure and features. Im at the moment kind of still dreaming about certain things. I really love the way it can become very nature inspired, with roots and leafs, grass, moss, diffrent small parts. I also figured out the camera position for the final image. I want this one to stand out really well. I love how you can create something, work on it, and do all these things, and it gives birth to something real. Something you created. It adds up alot to realize that. So, lets venture deeper into the woods, and see if we can find this creature......

still very much in the modeling and sculpting phase. I have some really nice tree brushes with alphas in Zbrush I want to test. I will be posting when I´ve come deeper into this phase. Thank you for coming by, it means alot!!!
