Getting my toes wet here. Gonna make a character based on the Swiss Mercenaries (Reisläufer) with a medieval/ futuristic Cyborg design. Maybe with a St. Bernard support character for extra Swissness. References incoming

Gathered so Ref Images...Still a bit foggy as to the actual direction, but I know I want the color scheme to be Gold, Silver, White and Red. Maybe I will go for a less realistic design and a more stylized look.

Exploring some silhouettes. I figure I will block some shapes in 3D space once I start in Zbrush. Not sure about the feet as yet...Do I want feet? hooves? I will figure it out in Blockout

Worked a bit more on the sketch of the silhouette. Was a bit conflicted with what I had. The Reislaufer are elite and specialized footsoldiers, so they should be armored, yet not too bulky. They need to be able to move around. I like the longer legs, they can run if needs be.
Also found a way to incorporate some watch mechanisms into the design via a window on the back with a Gyro-type device reminiscent of the inner workings of fine Swiss Watches. (Dunno if it will be AS detailed)
OK... DEFO time to start blocking in 3D Stuff.

A rough Block in of the basic shapes. Going to retopo the chestplate first as it's the central piece that everything else branches from.
I not sure of the feet still...will leave as is until I get to em.

I decided to rework the pauldrons...looks great in the silhouettes, but don't like them in practice. (Leaves open gaps to get ouchies out on the battlefield)
Also, reworked the forearms to become a shield when brought together (They can also be effective protection on their own.
Also a Visor-thingy for the face...maybe.

Yup, Still in this somehow, it's gonna be a race to the finish-line. Here's a render of all the pieces that have been UV unwrapped with UDIMS layed out for Substance painter. I will work on the hands last.

I am steaming through to get it done in time. Have some rivets and bits to add, lion-cloth, detail for the helmet, the clock and the Halberd to actually model and texture >__>

Somehow I forgot to add a render for the back of this guy. The mechanism in the center is inspired by the Zytglogge in Switzerland's capital, Bern.

Gonna call it done. My steampunk, medieval cyborg reimagining of a Swiss Reislaufer, one of the most feared mercenary fighters of Europe, known for their skill with the pike or Halberd. The tradition carried on today with the Papal Swiss Guards at the Vatican, who still wear the traditional gear, harkening back to the time of the Mercenaries of old.
Was a tough theme to get through ( a bit of a spicy one). But I wanted to challenge myself. Good luck to one and all.

EDIT: Somehow the upload resized my model sheet. I cannot seem to reupload again to get the correct size. The Main image was also reduced in size but is still within the tolerances. Oh well.
