In Māori mythology, Tāne is the god of forests and of birds and also is believed to be father of first humans. In my submission it won't be a try to precisely represent his look as a mythological character but use his image as central figure and idea among other cultural symbols.
My character will represent New Zealand's natural protection spirit.
I've collected some references to start

Made a little moodboard

The main Idea about the character is that he's not material but spiritual essence. So to embody himself he uses things around - pieces of wood connected with roots and lianas, grass, leaves, flowers for his cape etc. I'm kind of in a search to final design so I started doing stuff in Zbrush without final sketch. Not the best way but - This is the way)))

Started some search for proportions and details

Searching for some better wooden shell shapes

some progres on wood parts. Seems I've found some style I like
