Just found out about this contest at the last second, hope to catch up.

I've always wanted to create an ominous machine that is composed of complex cube like parts. The rough idea that I've always had was a sentient ancient machine of unknown origins that rearranges itself slowly every millennia. Its been foretold that the final form of this ambiguous machine reveals the origin of the universe.

Quickly created the kitbash parts that I will be using for this character. The aesthetic that I am going for is the parts to look interchangeable and bulky. These kitbash parts were modeled all from three basic smaller cube models. I achieved complexity and variations by mirroring, scaling, small extrusions, and repetition. It's always fun to create kitbash parts since they are the muscle fibers and bones of the machine you are going to create.

Created an IMM brush for these kitbash parts. IMM brushes are great for kitbashing. Tested them all out as well trying to visualize what the silhouette will look like using these simple parts.

Here is the rough silhouette and base metal parts of this character. Went crazy with the shapes to experiment with different forms. Will now polish up each piece and make them more sharp, trimmed, and hard surface looking.

Base metal has all been polished up and sharpened. Time for kitbashing, will be using the kitbash parts to fill in the empty spaces of the base metal pieces.

Kitbash parts are on the torso and head now. Turned out better than I envisioned it in my head. Looking forward to filling up the rest of the body. I'm really pushing for the puzzle like aesthetic where the parts look like they can fit anywhere on the body.

Most of the upper body has been kitbashed. As I was kitbashing this, the mythology and story of this particular character started to shape up even more than how I started it off at first. This character will tie into the other sci fi characters I have done in the past. I will post the mythology of Labyrinth once the final image is complete. Also, the silhouette was inspired by robed monks to give off the aesthetic of ancient wisdom.

Kitbashing finally complete, wow that was fun. It has always been an interesting process of learning to not only combine parts to make something entirely new but also knowing the direction and flow of details to move the eye in certain places. I will be using this character for a future project of mine so this will have to be UV'ed, textured, and rigged but due to the remaining time of this contest, I might have to skip those for now and finish this character off as a concept rather than a complete production ready character, but we shall see.

Added the finishing touches as well to this character in the form of cube halos. This particular detail will make sense later on once I reveal to you guys the mythology of this character when the final image is complete. I also changed the name of this character from Labyrinth to Matriarch to fit the lore and symbolism more.

Matriarch quickly UV'ed and textured. Emphasizing on the divine aesthetic by having reflective and polished surfaces and by having the halo like cubes emissive.

Matriarch

An ancient machine that wanders the vast universe to gather and store cosmic knowledge in the form of cubes. It was believed to be created by God as a data vault to grant Him necessary knowledge of the cosmos to fulfill His passion to create an entirely unique design, organic life.
