This idea has been brewing for a while. I wanted to do a Dark Fairy/Elf type character for a while and I really like some of the poses ballerinas came make and so I referenced a lot of those and came up with these designs.

So far I really like the bottom left one so I'll probably develop that one further.

Model Sheet is done. Put them along with the sketches and final concept design together as the Concept Sheet so I don't forget to do it later!

Started blocking out the fairy as well as getting a general idea for the background. The story is that she's infected and is slowly killing the forest.

If you're really set on a fairy concept, I don't think anything here says "fairy" - she currently looks like a pretty straightforward demon/succubus lady. Horns and wings, mostly - and a tail? (I can't tell if it's a tail or a piece of fabric from her waist-thing!) It's a totally acceptable direction, but it's not communicating what you mean to. (If you google "succubus", they all look roughly like this.)

That said, love your pose/direction in the final, gonna be nice and dynamic. =)

Yeah, she definitely has a succubus look about her. My intention is to deconstruct the typical fairy look and I shouldn't have stated this was a fairy to begin with. I intend to do an "opposite" painting to this where I do both light and dark as two separate themed images. The light one will hold more traditional fairy characteristics so the contrast can be more striking. Unfortunately this is the only one I'll be entering so the context is missing (oops)!

I'm concerned I'm overdoing it with the infected purple vein things so I'm keeping them very loose at the moment. Need to start pushing my lights and darks to make the image pop a bit more, so I'll probably do that next and see if/when inspiration strikes next!

Walked away for 10 minutes and then came back to it. Definitely felt the vein things were too overcrowding and I felt the composition needed to be framed a little better.

So after having a look at other entries as well as youtube videos for inspiration, plus a quick google search for references, I re-did the background. I feel like she's in the forest a lot more than the previous version and the blue tones make the forest seem more dead to me (she's killing the forest btw)

Last update of today, I promise. My wife pointed out that it looks like the forest is attacking her rather than the other way round, so I desaturated the vein things and had them originate from her hand. Is it obvious that she is the one doing this to the forest?
