SO. UPDATES. I started in on trying to work out the final design (MARVEL at the wildly different levels of finish)
But I was getting increasingly frustrated with my design, both on here and just in general I was coming across several designs that felt too similar to what I was doing, and I just wasn't, like... feeling it. I also didn't feel like I'd set a proper design direction and parameters for the character, so the tone was all over the place.
So some sketchbook stuff:
I figured instead of horns I'd try for more of a crown/helmet/headdress thing, maybe play with bark textures a bit. Some different heads:
And concurrent to the above two things, trying out some horizontal thumbs for more of a splash screen or card type composition:
I'm still a ways off from a final design and a final composition, but I think I have a better idea of what I want to do. She should have the feeling of a goddess or an avatar of some sort, not fully armored for battle but with some semi-ceremonial elements of armour. (I don't want the "sexy lady armour" look so it's important to get across that, like... I know it's not the most protective.) She's regal, unearthly, and dangerous. Not elegant, just a little bit feral. Also I want to set the final comp in the winter, to set it apart a little more from other forest avatar types.
Plz enjoy this further exploration as I spend several hours of drawing for what amounts to "?????"
