Just a few thumbnails to get everything going. Just exploring with shapes and getting the feel of which side I want to represent. I am leaning more towards the light side atm. Got an idea of playing around with a humanoid reptilian monk, just for something different.

Picked my favourite five and developed them a bit. Still deciding between 2, 3 and 5.

Rightio, taken me a while and alot of anatomy studies to get to this semi decent point. I do love how these challenges always bring me back to the necessity of learning the fundamentals! I still need to work on the anatomy. For now here are some thumbs for the potential design of my lizard monk. I'm finding I am more partial to no. 3. Something about simplicity being more aesthetically pleasing for a monk.

Figured out this character's backstory as well. In essence, Quar is the spiritual leader on a group of monks who are actively trying to uphold the light against the forces of darkness. Quar is unique in that she has learnt to channel the Fire Within. Her mind and attacks are blessed with the cleansing power of spiritual fire.

Plan is to:
Start working on finalising design and anatomy (forever my bane) for the concept sheet.
Find a way to try and push the light side a little more as well. Im going to try and push that with colours and values a bit more.
Start thumbnails of the illustration and figure how I'm going to push her abilities and bio as a leader into the composition.

Hey! like the concept so far and the characters backstory as well. Perhaps you can emphasize her power (Fire within) in her costume? (But I know you have to come up with a colour palette as well so you probably are already working on that )

I didn't even think to try and push the fire element into the costume. Thank you! Will definitely do that, for cohesion's sake.

Hey there, light side character!

My main critique so far is that there should be more round skull behind her horns. It would make her face more believable and also give you more space opportunity for horns/headdress costume.

When you get to color, I think it would be cool to see some of the "fire" idea on the pattern of her scales as well.

Will there be some other monks behind her in the final illustration? I think that light-side leaders do well with having lots of companions to emphasize their skills.

Hello!
Thanks for the advise. I will be definitely rounding out the skull and adding more supporting characters!
Ive just gotten stuck with the design a bit. Currently playing around with it until i find something a little more interesting to make the character pop.

So I took the longest break with this. Was starting a summer semester in my degree and it chewed up my time. Here is a revised design that I will be moving forward with and using to test colours before I will finally make my turn around and illustration.
