Bollocks! I never managed to finish my entry! Oh well, next year I'll get my timing better for vacation. Here is what I managed to get done...
Here is my rough comp so far, really pushing it, but this is going to be tight, just gonna submit whatever I can get done!
SO, I scrapped the previous pose because it was just a pain to try and get the foreshortening right. I managed to get most of it right but the back leg threw me for a loop. That made me question the pose overall and I just felt it was a bit too dynamic a front and back image. It also took up a lot of real estate on the character sheet so instead did something a bit more traditional and boring, but it works. I'll put the cool poses in the final composition.
Here he is with his staff done, was debating a tail but I don't think so.
Super stoked with the extension, now I think I can possibly make this deadline! Here is the colour pass in progress, I just need to his staff up, and then I will work on his reverse side. I'll start posting some concepts for the final pose/composition soon.
Putting together the front and back of my character, don't know why I did such a complicated pose for my sheet
. Oh well, need to work on his back and then add a quick colour pass. Final piece will come next... hopefully.
I haven't posted for a very long while, I've been away on vacation in Thailand for almost a month so I haven't had access to any tech besides a small sketch book. This is just a quick colour study of may characters face. I will post my character sheet soon, and start working on the final piece. Hopefully I can still submit something half decent!
I wanted to work on some anatomy poses to get a better feel for the character, as well as explore some other features for the character to better identify his shared lineage. To do this I added the antlers and ears of a deer with some modifications. I think it's starting to come together nicely. I also settled on a name for the character which comes from his dual parentage, Simian Fawn.
Quick little bit of lore about the character while I'm online. So this guy is the son of Woo-Kong and Gaia/Mother Nature. His horns are not demonic, they are a fawn's from his mother's side. His staff has been altered to suit his fighting style and he uses discs located in the palms of his gloves to create shock waves that emanate from the staff when embedded in the ground.
I did some more work on the character today to get better feel for his visual language and how to pose him for the final image. I think it's going in the right direction but still needs more crafting before I settle on a final idea.
I wanted to join the ArtWar last year but I never got my... things together so trying again this year. I did some very basic doodles in my sketchbook, and one thing stuck. My nickname/artist name is Gorillafactor so I thought I would do something ape themed.
I started sketching this in Sketchbook Pro initially and then did a quick ink in my sketch book
