Hello all,
First time posting on the forums... what better way than trial by fire in the ARTWAR 2 contest! I got an email about it and this contest is something I can't pass up! I will definitely be getting more involved with Cubebrush now. This is awesome! Love seeing everyone's creativity!

For my character I will be doing what I call, "The Sower." While thinking up what to do for the contest I kept coming back to what I believe is the ultimate in darkness. A person can't help but think about the Grim Reaper when thinking about darkness and death. I decided that the Reaper needed a relative...

"You REAP what you SOW." (See what I did there )

Just getting started. Messing with posing and deciding on armor. Kind of working backwards but it helps me get into the mindset of the character and maybe I think of things I wouldn't normally think of.

Started with the pose I like yesterday but I wanted to AMP up the character a bit. I thumbnailed a while and put out some different ideas (below). The thumbnail I chose to continue working off of builds off of the "pose" image above. 1 looks too orderly, 2 is too "demon(y)", but 3 is just the right amount of "EVIL-CREEPY" for me. I can't wait to bring the number 3 thumbnail idea into the pose image.

I'm loving the silhouettes, I like number 3 simply because of the multiple heads. But I personally think one is the stronger armor body wise. Maybe I just have a think for skeletons. But awesome work none the less.

Thanks! I definitely agree that #1 is the better armor. I'll have to keep that on file for another painting down the road. It just looked too orderly and neat for how I wanted the character to be portrayed.

Here's a very near complete tone version of the front of the "Sower of Sorrow." Hope everyone digs it! Now I'm on to colorizing and starting the back of the character. Slow and steady!

You should try more color schemes, like maybe rusted moss colors, to emphasize some rock elements or bone to it.

Here's the front and back of the "Sower of Sorrow" so far. Might tweak some things but I'm going to get to work on the final pose now! Woot!
