Brad - ART School Journey

Hi there! My name is Brad, I'm a 32 year old chemistry graduate student that once desired to be a concept artist in my teens and early 20s. This year I decided to take the leap into ART School to help give me some structured learning to get back into the craft. Art projects I've had planned and locked away have been gnawing at me to be let out and I need to learn new skills and brush up on my old ones to do those comics justice.

I'm looking forward to sharing my journey with you all and will fight to see it through to the end. Due to my job and graduate work this might take longer than usual, but that won't deter me from doing what I have to.

@leeireo Thank you so much! I didn't think anyone would recognize the OneShot fan art but it's cool that you know about the game as well! Looking forward to getting through more of the first term, watching the video about Photoshop basics right now and wanting to get into the drawing lessons in earnest.

Hoping the same with you! Saw your work and already see some great progress! Hopefully, I'll be able to say the same about mine soon.

Day one of doing assignments. Since photo manipulation isn't my main focus I'll be moving on to "1 - Nude Figure Drawing" to get the meat of what I'm looking for when I get time tomorrow. Any critiques or comments are welcome!

Long time no see! January was a much more crazy month than I expected it to be and found myself with little time and energy to devote to drawing practice. Experimenting with having no caffeine, family visits, and COVID booster shots really took a toll. I'm hoping to get a post every two weeks or so now that grad school is back in full swing.

Gotta get back some personal mental blocks, but this is the year to do it! Here's my first attempt at the skeleton with limbs practice and a couple pieces that I worked on/finished using the techniques from the "Naked Figure Drawing" video (the start of a comic character I have and my D&D character)!

...I'm now aware that the two images from imagination are nearly the exact same pose. Need to vary it up.

Your tracing study is one of the best I've seen! All those cylinders look like they're facing the correct direction.

Also, the last artwork is so good OoO amazing character design

@leeireo Thank you so much! I'm hoping to see some improvement on that exercise over these next few weeks, and I feel energized from your kind words. Glad you like my D&D character's design; they got a new robe (and got partly turned into a dragon) and I had to commemorate it on canvas.

Like @leeireo said, your tracing study is very impressive. I would advise to use different colour if both objects are overlapping each other like her left leg.

@Lockenheim Thanks! I went to traditional art school for a couple semesters a decade ago so I'm glad a little of that is still showing. Glad to find another D&D player here!

@Gordon003 I appreciate the kind words! I was hoping that making the leg that was being overlapped a lower opacity would help but it definitely still blends in. I'll work on that with my next set of studies.
