Brodie Swift - Art School Journey

Hey everyone, I'm Brodie, 32 and a Dad of 4, from Australia! For the longest time I've wanted to become a better artist but have always faced the lack of discipline to see it through. I've been addicted to gaming for many many years and when it came to free time, gaming always won out.

About a year and a half ago I quit gaming and since then I've been consistently working on improving both my mindset and my art, daily. I feel my biggest change is that I have learnt to love the process of creating art, not just the end result. I have also become addicted to learning and improving.

Having watched Marc for many months now, I have finally taken the dive into Art School, to really push myself to master the fundamentals and level up my skills.

Starting with Photoshop for Digital Production these are the assignments I've completed so far:

I have finished up the last two parts for Photoshop for Digital Production:

Upon starting this course I have started using photoshop on a drawing display over the iPad, I have worked with it before a few years ago, so it was nice to get a refresher for the different tools available.

I have started Nude Figure Drawing and am about halfway done on the assignments so it shouldn't be too long until I post those!

Okay so I've been a bit caught up with work, I got to do a book cover illustration, was really happy with how it turned out, I'll post it when I can!

So I finished up the last two assignments for Nude Figure Drawing and did some extra gestures, this time with some longer poses.

The measuring assignment took me like 2.5hrs, first attempt was quite off with the horizontal proportions so I started over and got much closer the second try.

I know I'm jumping the gun here but I've been doing a few quick portrait studies trying to understand the forms of the face and the structure. Can't wait to do this more in-depth in term 2! The last one I took more time to colour and render, I got some good feedback and fixed the perspective of the facial features.
