OMG, I'm so thankful for your comment ! I didn't actually expect such good feedback. Great advices, really . I'm already watching youtube videos, and I'll try to get the books. Also thanks for mentioning schoolism, I checked the website and I'll definitely try it. I'll finish my Belle xD and I'll start doing more studies and making personal stuff . Thank you so much goldentiger !
I decided I want to design my own character (taking the advice from @goldentiger ,thanks) So my idea is that this is some floral/forest elf I'm not sure how far I'll take this but I might do other characters too. I want to take a break from the character and work on some variants for the staff and see what I can do + get some proper feedback for the elf and try to fix things up . Any feedback is welcome, thank you!
I think it coming along really well! I think at this point you could blend some of the brushstrokes a little bit to get some smoother gradation (for example on her thigh). Then maybe going around with a small opaque brush and clean up the edges of each element that you wat to give more definition.
As for making it more interesting, I'm not quite sure. I think that the character as it is looks cool, so maybe try working on the background. Maybe adding more debris (possibly some large ones) or having elements that sets her in a less ambiguous location, like maybe a mountain or a destroyed city (which the debris could come from).
I hope this helps you somehow. Keep up the good work!
Hey, you can actually see some process vids on youtube of some splash arts. They stoppes making them but there are still used once on their channel too. I think they have more detail and more depth, they are also rendered to the extreme, where they seem lifelike. I think you lack some anatomy and shading, you're doing great, so just keep going! Maybe do some value studies and rendering. And as I said, there are process vids on youtube! Also on Artstation you can find a bunch of artists that work for Riot, a lot of times they are on the front page and give a ton of insights on their process! The recent Evelynn one was on there too.
here's one from diana, it was done by Kienan Lafferty, search him on yt too, he makes very good art vids that are very in depth about art, so maybe you can learn something there too ^-^
No problem, you do great work. Sometimes it takes another someone to spot things when you have been staring at the same image for hours. Happens to me all the time, I walk away for 15 mins and when I come back I can usually spot my errors. Its just a simple trick I use, otherwise I rage quit. Keep them coming, beautiful use of colour too. Im still trying to set up my blog but im such a techno-tard I had to get help from the cubebrush team, im hopeless, but I can draw ok.
maybe a small shadow under the feet just to ground the character? Burlesque, wasnt that from the 20's? Black hair and red dress looks more like what you are trying to capture to me but then again I was born in the 70's so what do I know? I like the polished look of the red dress and that rough un polished look of the hand fans, works for me, great anatomy too, youve managed to capture that stylized effect of the burlesque posters from way back when. Very cool
You are improving so much with each new piece, it's really inspirational to see!! My only suggestion is I feel like alot of your poses are kind of.. staring forward with legs forward, basically floating or standing. You should try for more dynamic pieces! Maybe have one of her legs going back and one folded and going forward with the shield up? I am not sure how much you can change the current sketch right now.
