So I've been having a hard time working on the computer lately. I'm not sure why, but I get tired and lose interest fairly quickly. So I went back to do some traditional painting instead. So here's what I've been up to in the last few days (sorry for my poor photography skills)

Last Stand: Acrylic paint and colored pencil on 12''x16'' canvas.

So I've got a new tablet to replace my trusty 8 years old Wacom Bamboo. I'm also aiming to rework my portfolio a bit towards book covers. So here's an early sketch I'm working on to try it out the new tablet.

Value structure thumbnails (using 3 values):

Color ''temperature'' structure over my 3 favorite value thumbs (based on a warm, cool and neutral color scheme):

And now I need to decide which one I feel works best. If you guys could help me that would be great ;D

So I've settled for 1F, 2C and 3F. I did some quick coloring to give me a better idea and now I'm stuck. I'm not really sure which on I prefer XD

Cool idea! Out of these three I like 1F the best, with 3F coming in second.

@jenniferbrincho: Thanks a lot for the feedback! I was leaning towards the same too. However I decided that I wanted to add some glowy magic effects and it popped more on the third one so I went with it instead.

And here's some little progress I've made.

And some more progress. I've started to render the character and define the window frame-thing. I have a huge lack of dragon in the art I make so that's why I've added some dragon-like elements to it.

Looking great so far! (Ha, I should have read the chart more carefully. This is one of the ones I liked, and I guess it was 2C, not 3F. Derp.) Keep up the good work!

I'm slowly working on the the decorative window frame right now. Here's a closeup of the top left.

Really liking the design of this! Looks like something out of Bayonetta
What were your inspirations or influances when drawing it ?

I'd say that for this character I was somewhat inspired by the work of Anthony Jones and the manga Bleach.

So I'm still not done with the painting I'm working. I'm trying to take my time to make it as good as I can. In meantime here's some character sketches from my sketchbook.

And here's a closeup of the two black ink drawing. the first is based on an aztec statue while the second is from a picture of an hindu deity. I think they've turned out fairly fine, but I still need to work on my cross-hatching.

Here's an ink drawing I made in my sketchbook while I was playing around with inks. The anatomy is not quite right, but I guess it's technically a sketch... so it's fine XD

Another ink drawing. This was based on an ancient depiction of a phoenix I saw in a book I have. I liked the design because it was different than how I usually imagine a phoenix would be. One unfortunate thing though is that the scanner failed to capture the background texture properly. It's actually much more defined and I feel it look a more like fire than it does here.

Also I'm not sure if it's only me, but it sort of look like a fusion between Pidgeot and Fearow XD
