Hi everybody!
I'm not at my home workstation at the moment so I thought I'd post something I did right before the Christmas break to kind of test the waters and see the quality of feedback I can get here.
As the title says, I Studied wangjie le for the following info:
- Brush strokes across the contour of the form to get a better grasp of volume
- Losing edges across forms where the normal direction relative to the light is similar, and accentuating areas of ambient occlusion near them
- dark value areas of interest with one hard edge and softly blended into the rest of the form
- (didn't get this one right) conservation of energy - brighter values on tighter speculars (material dependent)
I'd love to know if a) any of my above pursuits were successful, and b) what other glaring issues I might want to work on before continuing on to my next study.
I've been reading though Craig Mullin's posts from the Sijun forums and one of the things I didn't realize I should have done (dumb mistake) was to start from a middle value and work my way outwards so the only light values I used were deliberate. I'll be careful not to make that mistake in the future.
